Well found some eggs just now and they are all with dots in so thrilled and put in the 2.5g with heater. Moving a moss ball just now on my search for more eggs, found moving dust particles which are fry! They are using the two moss balls as coverage, help! Do I leave them, will the 6 adult pygmy cories leave them alone or do I move them to the 2.5g? I lost all fry last time and feeling exceedingly worried about what to do. If they go in the 2.5g wont have filter but daily water changes. Thanks for any help (very very anxious)

Hi Amy

just pm'd you :)

Congrats on your eggs and fry :good:

Gosh they must be weeny  Like i said i would try to catch the fry if you can,and put them in the separate tank,You could buy a sponge filter, these are worked off an airpump.cost around £3-£4.

Thanks so much for all the help!!! Not sure how many eggs (ones I did pick out though were all with dots) but got 23 fry :hyper: Very excited just hope this time I can look after them properly. Have them all in the 2.5g for now, with heater and air pump, will post pic in mo to see what you think. I have looked for air driven pumps before and can never find them, LFS's near me have only the mini internal filters before going to enormous ones... May have seen one at Wilkinsons so will have to check that out. Have seen how to make your own but dont have the piping (I know guys Im useless you can say it  )

I got the pygmies with the intention of breeding, but thought as only had a week or so would leave them for a good while before attempting, obviously they have other ideas!

Anytime :)

They have been busy,bless them,:)

You might be better off buying an airpump online, they're far cheaper than lfs, ebay do basic airpumps for around £5 :good:

Tank looks fab, well done and good luck with the fry/eggs

What would I do without you guys?! Be a nervous wreck for sure  Thanks so much, going to have a quick look on Ebay now (see not thinking again!) and see what can find in the meantime, xxxx

Thanks betta246!! xx

How about this:

Hope ok to post link, not wishing to advertise just wish to get the right thing?

oh, i was gonna buy that, when i was going to breed the bettas. You will need a sepearate air-pump as it doesnt include one. :)
Its a good sponge filter though :good:

Thats the one i bought for my fry originally :good:

I've upgraded to a mini elite filter for when they're bigger. :)

Amy, if they hatch (hope they do) are you going to keep them all? (hint hint) I cant find any pygmy's :( I phoned P@H, they dont have any atm. :(

Brill guys, so get this to replace airstone have currently with them, then elite mini when much stronger (say 3 weeks?).

Hey betta_246, depending how survive you certainly would be welcome to some, but don't want to get your hopes up as my first cory batch (different cories) lost to nitrite problems. Now aware of what can crop up, will do my upmost to keep these guys going, but really will need to be on bated breath (plus you probably wouldve found some by the time they are old enough!)

Have you tried Maidenhead if one near you? The ones down here aren't cheapest but do have all three types of the pygmy cories (hastatus, habrosus and pygameus - forgive spelling).

As a plan on rearing how does this sound?

1. For the first week keep with bubblewand, heater as above with daily water changes and liquifry food and dust bloodworm (only thing can get available tried cultures but couldnt get them to work). Also on the window seal with moss balls and foxtails to gain natural life.

2. Week two, transfer to 5g with much same setup but by this time ordered pump would have arrived, supply with mature media. Continue with same food

3. Week three start to introduce crushed frozen bloodworm and mysis shrimp and decapsualted brine shrimp eggs.

Let me know what you think guys and what can improve on, tried some wormy culture that required ready brek but couldnt get it to work at all...

Sounds good :good:

I've never cultivating me own,(finding the time would be good  ),at the moment for the first week or so i feed them liquidfry mixed with a little tank water,i was adding tiny spot of firstbites but i'm not sure if this is causing a nitrite spike, has i haven't been using it for a day or so and tank seems more settled.not sure

Then i move to feeding frozen bbs defrosted in tank water, also feeding baby fry food instead of firstbites, later adding tetra prima, grinding the granules to powder and soaking in tank water before feeding.
It worked for my first batch :)
