Hey! I'm looking to get some pygmy cories for my gfs planted Betta tank (25L). I just want to check and double check that this isn't a horrible idea? I love little cories but I am always concerned when putting fish in with a Betta for both of them.

Also, I'm struggling to find anywhere that sells them nline, only fish I have seen are at a local shop that I refuse to buy from due to appaling conditions of their fish and reps. Any ideas?

Cheers all

Hi. Pygmys are little cuties, I have 7 myself!

In theory yes they should be fine with a Betta. Really though it comes down to the personality of each fish. I have Ember Tetras in with mine and he does chase them a bit. I say go for it because chances are they will be fine but maybe make sure you have somewhere to rehome them just in case.

As for buying them online, you can get them here -->http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6X-PYGMY-CORYDORAS-CATFISH-PYGMAEUS-STUNNING-/280745775197?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item415dc0905d

I bought mine from this bloke and couldn't recommend him more. Fish were all very healthy and turned up extreamley well packaged etc.

They'll be fine i think,i love mine great little critters.

Got mine from ste12000 through ebay, had a few fish from him,not 1 DOA,good healthy fish, well packaged, always makes sure delivery date suits you etc

Think he has some for sale now but just keep checking his items for sale

I know this site sells some, but they're pretty hefty on the postage: http://shop.sweetknowleaquatics.co.uk/epages/246260.sf/sec604d489195/?ObjectPath=/Shops/246260/Products/%22Pygmy%20Corydoras%22/SubProducts/%22pygmy%20corydoras%20-%20Offer%22

I'm thinking of buying some for my 28L, think 5-6 would be fine in there with my betta?

we managed to get some C. Habrosus - 11 for £15 :good: - from a fish shop in manc (Gay Lyfe in levenshulme for those that are interested)

McBenthy, that's a really good price, most I've seen are about £4 each ;)

Good price :good: Habrosus get bigger than pygmys,i would say a 25l is pushing it once they get bigger,my habrosus are around 1.5 inches and pretty chunky.

Have fun with your new additions :)

I found that out soon after getting them home (were just labled as pygmy cats). We are keeping an eye on them, if they get too big, I have a larger tank for them. However, there seems to be a couple of biggies in my lot and the tank in the store, and they are just shy of 1", so I'm not sure if they may just top out at 1"... hmmm

I've brought from sweetknowleaquatics, and I couldn't recommended them more highly as an online shop. The fish arrive so well packed that you feel safe that the fish have been well cared for and the journey to you is minimally stressful to the fish. They don't use royal mail to ship fish which is why they cost more as shipping live fish by royal mail (like most other online shops I've seen) is actually prohibited. The courier they use know they are carrying live fish (labels all over the box) so they know to be more careful. You get what you pay for. It's worth paying a little extra for the peace of mind and welfare of the fish. :)

Bigger ones are probably female :good:

That's the thinking we're going with, now trying to convince the gf she doesnt want any ugly Bettas and would be much happier with a species tank of breeding cories... :hey:

I would try breeding them before adding a Betta

Whats your temp in the tank?

My pygmys & habrosus got triggered at 24 degrees, with cold water changes & feeding them defrosted baby brine shrimp :good:

Heres my pygmy cory log

I know right!? and the tank is ~25 degrees. Am wanting to get a better heater, but the one she has works, and it keeps it as steady as 25L can be; so there's not really a big enough budget for a new one. I will suggest the defrost BBS to her tho. She was asking what live foods are good for them, I guess bloodworms/other worms... what else?
