do all green spotted puffers have their own color characteristics? mine is a solid white under belly, and his uper body is a greenish brown with a bright yellow dimond shape right on his neck area, is this normal and does he sound healthy?, i feed him a mixture of brine shrimp and planktin cubes( made myself, he just loves them ) i don't think the tank seem to be an issue right now because i'm pretty sure he doesn't know that he will get any bigger only we will know, he is 1.5'' big. well any way your answer will be apressiated! thanks.

Calm down, sometimes it takes days to get a reply.

From what I've heard, their colors change on what mood their in, from their beyy being black or white, or to them turning compleatly gray all over.

not sure if all puffers have this characteristic, but dwarfs change color when they "sleep", so maybe greens do too....................

Mine are constantly changing colour, sometimes they're really distinct green and black others (especially in the morning) they're greyish with the green being almost yellow, never stops them though and they seem happy enough.

The coloration does change with their moods and time of day as with a lot of puffers (as well as many other fish species) The colors you describe sound quite normal and healthy. GSP's commonly have white underbellys and their top can range from yellow to dark green to flourescent green with black spots. GSP's are also distinguishable by the seemingly glowing spot of color on the top of their head and their almost metalic blue eyes that appear to reflect the light at times.

Although it is only 1.5 inches now they are very active swimmers that can have quick growth spurts so you should probably think about preping a larger tank soon as it may be needed in the next couple months (hopefully he'll be fine till Christmas :D ).

because my puffer is just starting to get light blackish cheeks i'm going to the lfs on saturday to pick up a bag of instant ocean or marine salt, along with a hydrometer. but how will i change to using this kind of salt with out stressing my puffer? and i'll have to get rid of my electric yellow- oh well.

I would just check the specific gravity of the tank now (with the hydrometer), once you know the SG of the water in the tank you can mix up a pail of water to match (or raise it by no more than .002) and do a 50% water change, do this every couple of days and the puffer should be Ok. Be sure not to raise the SG by more than .002 per week, and you can keep the GSP in BW from 1.005 right up to full marine 1.025 (I think that is marine)
