Yesterday I started teaching my 5 year old his 2 times table, we had fun by being a train and chanting it. I have just tested him by asking him random "whats 3x2, and 7x2) he got them all right really quick :hyper:

Awww, that's so sweet!! Well done :good:

I am doing 'high frequency words' with Toby, 4, atm. He has poor hearing and we have really been working on his speech and sounds. He is doing so well and read about 20 words now and we started a week ago. I must admit it is quite funny sometimes, he can sound out words but he hasn't quite grasped blending lol Which I know he will soon but I can't help but giggle inside when he sounds things like b...a...t and comes up with 'train'.

Heh, I don't think my parents ever did that with me... in fact I was awful at maths until I was about 13 when I went to secondary school in which I got taught like a real person and excelled. I really think with something as simple as being taught 2xtables at such a young age will help your brain get into that calculation mode.

Good going :good:

You can teach him 9x table using your fingers on your hand! if its 3 x 9 you put your middle finger down on your left hand an there is 2 digits on on your left and 7 on the other 2+7 = 27, 3x9 = 27 :D

You can do your 6, 7 and 8's on your hands too but I have no idea how to do it :( the "lower" maths sets at school learnt it that way. My schools never taught times tables, well nothing except 2, 5 and 10s etc. I still work out the 9's on my hands lol

I work out anything other than 2's, 5's and 10's on my phone.

Cheers,
Alessa!

my 4 year old counted upto 100 for the first time yesterday :D

Thats brill, my 3 year old cracked me up the other day when his brother was trying to get him to count to 100

Eldest said "count 1 to 100"

Little one went " 1...2...100"

My daughters got my wifes terrible maths dyslexia!!! was doing subtractions with her the other day and it was hard work. She'll have to marry well I think.

Heh, Or once she gets into the real world she can just use a calculator like everyone else!

I had an economics exam last week and during the time at the end I tried to calculate 634,414,872 x 47,500 I had about 25 minutes to do it in my spare time haha and wasn't far off! I then proceeded to draw the obligatory "2 Hills with one big hill" a few random farm yard animals and a pile of cow dung. Student loans well spent on my education obviously.
