Problems :(

I'd try the magnesium trick with Byropsis. It's much more of a PITA than hair algae and fewer animals eat byropsis, so I'd reccomend the chemical means. I'd still reccomend a Tang or Rabbitfish to control nuisance algae in general :)
I do have a kole tang (this one isnt mine)
Kole-tang.jpg

he is great and a lovely looking fish munchs away all day i didnt buy any other tangs as i wasnt sure if they are compatiable with each other.

Right the plan now thanks to this amazing forum is to try raising the magnesium, expanding my clean up crew. joes juice the majano's hopefully that should arrive tomorrow i will keep you all updated with pictures as i gess it may help future members :good:

Thanks for all the great advice keep it comming :)

Wait a minute, what's your lighting situation? That picture looks like you have two different types? Furthermore it looks like you really only have nuisance algae on the right side of the aquarium, is that the case?

Also, Kole Tangs are very compatible with other tangs that would fit in a tank that size.

Its funny you say that because the hood for my tank hold 8 tubes 2 on the left hand side for some reason stopped working i replaced the bulbs and still no luck its going in this weekend to be repaired the shop is going to lend me another hood while they repair mine but they did stop working about 2-3months ago ive been abit lazy! most of the fish and everything else tend to spend most of the time where the all the lights work.

One more thing what type of bulbs should i have in there like i said it hold 8  4 each side what is the best lighting for my aquarium?
It came with bulbs when i brought it which was 8months ago so they need replacing anyway.

Thanks again :)

What kind of bulbs are they? PC, T5, T8, VHO? And what about the algae, more on the left or right?

Ah, well T8 bulbs have pretty poor quality control in terms of the phosphors used to create their color. As such many T8 "whites" have a lot of red light in their spectra and encourage nuisance algae growth. When replacing bubs try to go for more of a mix of 14000K and/or actinic bulbs.

Thanks for everyones replys especially skifletch,

Things are starting to look abit better ive hit all the majanos i could see with the joes juice :) and did a small water change this evening i didnt want to remove too much water as i have been raising the magnesium over the last few days. no sign of the algae going brown yet but i did suspect the mg level to be very low. i got a test kit today and its quite hard to work out but i think it said my tank is now at around 1500.
i have been adding quite large amounts of magnesium over the last few days. So now i will add smaller amounts over the next few days and watch carefully and see what happens.

All the fish seem happy still and my anenome seems abit happier acturlly which is strange. Would raising the magnesium effect the anenome at all or is it just me?

Thanks guys your a great help!

Duane
