Preventive Maintenance

Hi Alex818,
I'm not a pro, but I'd save antibiotics until you need them for a serious illness. I have to wonder if fish are like humans, in that we build a resistance to antibiotics, if we take them as a preventative.

I'm sure you will get some expert opinions. :D

Not a pro, by any means; but, compare preventatives to taking whopping doses of megavitamins, antibiotics, antiseptics, etc. for the rest of your life.......Eventually, your immune system would be zapped and you'd die because you had grown a resistance to anything that could save you.

Not the same as an immunization.

IMO, any living thing doesn't need outside intervention (ie. meds) as long as it has all the needed vitamins/food sources, etc. which are provided in its natural environment.

Don't mean to sound as if I'm on my soapbox. :D Only use these things when you need to, so that in an emergency situation, there will be a positive response to them.

My view (coming from a medical background) is that everything has side-effects. Therefore, to reduce the risks of side-effects you only use treatments when you really need them. One exception to this would be dechlorinators, which I think are essential, and salt in molly tanks (which is a good idea, even if not strictly essential).
