 I have a black molly that's just over six months old. I think she's pregnant. She's much larger than the other female molly I have in the tank and the male is chasing her around like crazy. He's really not giving her a minutes peace. I've read they get pregnant around a year. Is this too soon? And does the male general chase the pregnant female. He's not going near the other female at all. Any knowledge you can share would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes typical male never leave the poor females alone, platys can get pregnant at about 6 weeks old I think.

I think that six weeks old is a lil to young since my swordtail is about 4 weeks old and aren't even an inch long yet.

they can breed between 4-6 weeks, but it depends on the fish, to when they acherly breed, some swordtails take up to 2 years to fully mature.

I've had a guppie birth at 4 months. Yet her sister never had fry was mated to the same male, and was 10 months when she died.

better prepare a breeding pen, sometimes babies get eaten by larger tankmates, just make sure that the pen is close to the oxygen supply, you can 1st feed them flakes and advance as they get bigger :D goodluck!
