You are very welcome! I'm glad you caught the fry, they are gorgeous! Glad to help :D

a few fry have escaped the breeder box...i think i might go buy a breeder net and put a fake plant in it, maybe two..

I know what you mean, I never keep my platy fry in a breeder box any more because they would all escape! It's the slits in the side, they can squeeze through

I have a 30 litre now, full of platy fry :D

aww! i have a 30gal with 4 mollies (2 male, 2 female), 2 guppies, and a plecostomus. i think im going to set up my 10gal for the fry to move to in a couple weeks. so far they are doing good. a few of them have somehow escaped and have not been eaten! they go hide when one of the bigger fish get near lol.

Aww good! They are brave!

Can I just ask, will the 10 gal have a filter? Do you know what cycling is?

What you need to do is, take the filter media from the ten gal (Which won't have any good bacteria in, so it is very important that you do this) and cram it into the filter in your 30 gallon. Leave it in there for like a day, or just a few hours, then when you take it out you can put it back into the 10 gal filter, and your 10 gal filter will have loads of good bacteria in! By the way this is really important, if you don't do this then the tank will not be cycled and the fry will die... You need the good bacteria to break down the fish waste or you will have an ammonia spike... that is deadly to fish. :/

I know I'm rambling, I just really want to help you with your fry and give you as much info as I can so the fry will be happy :)

Oh wow. I knew I had to cycle it but didn't though I could do it that way! Thanks!

And yes is has a filter but we haven't had the tank set up for a mo th or so

I do have a question though. I have tetraMin Pro tropical crisps that I crushed up into powder but when I put some in the main tank for the escapee fry, the older fish eat it.. Will the fry survive on algae, etc, that's on the tank floor?

Umm... Well I never leave my fry in the main tank, you're sure you cannot catch them? Fry should ideally be fed about 3/4 times a day... I know it seems a lot but they really do need it, I have made the mistake of not feeding them 3 times a day and they died...

I have had fry survive in the main tank with adults for about a week until I spot them (Because my female gave birth without me noticing) so they must find something to eat, right? Maybe when you feed them, put some larger flakes in for the adults, but also crush up some flake very fine, and get it between your fingers and put it underwater and let go... whilst the adults are eating the big flakes, the small flake should sink down and because it is very fine pieces, they won't be bothered trying to eat it so the fry will get it?

I dunno, I'm rambling again... Lucy Logic... It made sense in my head, not so much when I write it out

well i got the 19 gallon tank set up now im just waiting for it to cycle and what not. the fry seem to be doing good in the main tank so far. they are definitely good at hiding! once the 10gal cycles it will the nursery for all fry. i have been doing like you said with the food and it seems like the only time the fry come out of hiding is when its time to eat lol...
