Powerhead?

I'm currently running both the Built in hood trickle filter, that came with my tank (AR620T), and a canister filter, the Aqua One Aquis 700.
The way i see it, i'm getting about 1000 (poss more) L/Hr turnover with filters alone.

I've noticed recently, however, that i'm getting a bit of a build up of detritus in the corner of the tank, obviously i clean it up, but i'd like to have more water movement across the bottom of the tank, to keep the detritus from settling and building up.

Is it worth me getting a power head and running it towards the base of the tank?

Also, am i over-filtering? Is that even possible? I have my canister filter at the lowest part of my tank, so i don't think i'm getting the full 700 l/Hr from that, plus my powerhead running my trickle filter is pretty old, so i'm unlikely to be getting the full 750 from that.

Sorry, a lot of questions here, but i just want to make sure everything's OK for my fish!

Thanks in advance,

Jon

It's not uncommon to have a spot where the water current will deposit waste matter. Altering the exhaust direction of the canister filter should help or maybe moving decs/plants around. Also have you ever dismantled the power head of the trickle filter and cleaned the impeller magnet?

The overhead trickle system that Aquaone supplies with each of their models is more than adequate to cope with the expected stock of the tank size. However I would suggest not using their expensive cartridges containing carbon etc. When I had my 850 I filled the trays with a mixture of sponge and ceramics with a thin layer of white wool (cut from a roll that I got from eBay) across the top.

Over filtering (which you may well be doing) is kind of possible. Any filter will only hold the amount of bacteria required to process the amount ammonia produced from the waste of the stock of fish in that tank. If you have one or ten filters running they will only ever be able to hold exactly the same amount of bacteria but just spread out between them. Obviously if you over stock your tank (ie as with Malawi's) then you will need extra filtering to cope with the ammonia level.
