Hi there....

We'll somewhere within the night the power at my house decided to turn off and take all of my tanks with it. We'll i guess my filters were running dry for awhile and now i cant seem to start them back up...I have 3 aquaclear filters which wont start up and 1 penguin biowheel.please helpi cant afford new filters right now
..

surely if the power went out they wouldn't have been running at all... not running dry??

I use Fluval internal filters and quite often I have to clean out the impeller chamber after a water change as they refuse to start when I juice them back up again.

Try running a cocktail stick inside the chamber as well as rinsing the impeller itself, you'll be amazed at the gunk that comes out of there

Hope all your filters are up and running again soon and the fish are ok

Sorry for the slow reply....the power went out AGAIN and ive just been keeping the bio wheels and filters wet...i also threw in airstones so there was some circulation....thanks for the advice...there was a ton of junk in the impeller.. :D

On my laptop :sly: .... I also have a portable power pack which i got from Canadian tire...but i can only run 2 filters and a heater..and it probably wont last that long....I've tried cleaning the impeller on my AC300 and trying to re-start it and nothing...theres no priming sound and im stumped...it should work???

Well, if your power was out, they wouldn't run dry, they would only run dry if the water level went under the intake.

insulate the tanks and run airstones with your battery pack. it will last longer that way.

no no, see the filters dont have a self primer so there for the power goes out then the water drains out of the filter enough that it doesnt have enough of a ''kickstart" to start going again, then the motor will over heat becuase it isnt being cooled or lubricated by the water... most likely screwed...hope i helped
