Power Cut Warning

They are dead, thats me done for now. going to sell up my fish and quit for a bit. Ive got a tank full of white sticks now. GOing to start from scracth later on i think.

Oh, no, don't give up Ben - take a while and just give yourself time to reflect before making a big decision like that

I totally agree with seffie
Just sit back for a little and think about it, I know over the last 12 weeks of quarantining all my stock I have felt like just striping the system down and turning the tank into a vivarium or some think like that {And I am poop scared of snakes and the likes so that’s how peed of I was with my tank :  } but hey it just wouldn’t be the same I love this hobby and I would be lost without my fish and all the little problem that come along with them and once you have had time to reflect I am sure you will feel the same, chin up me old m8t that’s what I say, it would be a real shame to close your tank down after all the hard work you have put in

I wont be giving up for good. Il be starting from scratch taking my time, buying bits and bobs. Then by the time ive done it will hopefully all be top notch stuff...future TOTM coming :)
My other tank is still going at the minute though, not gone yet...

Im either going to get a custom built tank. 100x75x60cm = 415L
Or a standard 4x2x2

light unit il keep....2 x 250W halides.
bought today a deltec auto-top up

if anywone sees a plain 4x2x2 going cheap then let me know...near sheffield!

Sorry its been such a disaster for you, but glad you are hanging in there!
One of the big downsides of living in the sticks as I do, is a very dubious slectric supply (along with no mains water/gas etc etc) Luckily I have a back up generator(never brought with the reef in mind tho!).Which has been my saving grace on several occasions!
Will look forward to hearing about your rebuild.

Cheers! ive had 2 power cuts in teh last 2 years, they arent exactly often here! But with this in mind i think il buy vortechs with battery back ups :)

easiest way for an alarm normal biscuit board led battery and mains when led powered by mains led is off when mains off and battery on led is on?

You can battery back up the tunze pumps as well Ben!! :good: Just some think for you to consider
I personally prefer the tunze simply because i can direct them where i want them to go unlike the vortec also the price of the vortech has just gone up again

I know what your saying mate, i prefer the discreet look of the vortech though, although £340 for 1 pump  They have added more wave functions to it now though...

anyone with a roght guesstimate on how much a 1000x750x600 tank would cost? ( L x D x H mm)

Thanks Seffie.

Ive emailed for a quote to that site...the other one a nice tank, just not got £550 this month!

Does your water level in the sump/tank drop/rise when the power is out?

What about a water level alarm setup to let you know when the power is out (and the tank level drops to the weir height or something)

£4!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320506171650&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (Cheap and Chinese? Internally it is a very very simple circuit (DIY possible) so who cares where it comes from).

As for power backup - what sort of wattage/amperage are you drawing? Powering a 300w computer on a 1500VA UPS lasts around 10-15 minutes... my cheapie was around £45 so to get any length of time you will need to spend quite a bit, although the UPS would beep like crazy, could just get the cheapest one if only to alert you when the power is out, and then use something like a cheap petrol/diesel generator for longer terms (cheap ones are pretty loud of course).

UPS wise probably not best to power EVERYTHING in the tank, look at the minimum you need.

Thanks Seffie.

AC aquatics :good:
That’s where I got my bespoke tank from Ben no one could come close to them on price, but expect to wait from 6 to 12 weeks for delivery there very busy over there and it’s no wonder with the price they charge and the quality of the tanks is bang on m8t it real is, the one thing I would say though is make sure your very specific about what you want, my weir was not quite what I wanted and I had to mod it just a little
