Hello,

I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions about the best way to deal with the possible Ich?

Like previous posts i was wondering what the best course of action would be...so far my hatchet fish
one rainbow and my black phantoms have the speckle like white patterns on their bodies.

Would I be best removing these from the tank into a quarantine tank (however reading other posts
the infection/bacteria (whatever its called) drops off so it could be a possibility of the
gravel and the bottom of the tank being already effected.

So would it be sensible to remove the healthy fish, or could they already be carrying or have the problem?

I am planning to raise the temp to 30, but i have a number of snails and shrimps so i shall have to remove
them to do that too...

To be honest i dont know what to do for the best, as the parasite can attatch itself to plants and other ornaments,
woods, and gravel. So it seems sensible to treat the whole tank, which again have copper based which would affect
the snail and shrimps.... so they would have to be removed.

arh, i am sorry for my indecisive approach to this topic, however i really do not know what to do...

any help would be appreciated...

Hi, I don't think all anti-white spot treatments are copper based. I have been using Interpet anti white spot in my tank for nearly a week and the snails are still alive. Don't know about shrimp though. But if you are worried, you could try to isolate them, because I think you are meant to treat the whole tank. Do you have a spare tank for them?

It's best to issolate snails and shrimps when using parasite meds.
Also remove the smails when there dead as they can become toxic to fish when there rotting.

I think I would just half dose first to see how they handle the med.
Whitespot can also form patches. The spots will join up to form a patch.

Hello,

I am using interpet anti white spot at the moment, as its was the only one at the pet shop, i read the label and did the water change and dissolved the solution. It was like a bluey colour. Unfortunately, the hatchet fish were to sick, one passed away as the white spot parasite was on the tails and bodies, they have very fragile fins, and when i looked it lit looked like there was very little tail or fin left.

I was concerned and phoned a vet, as i thought i was treating the tank for the wrong problem. However, was informed due to the nature of the hatchets they are very prone and delicate, and told they would be lucky to survive. The problem being with the parasite on their tails when it finally drops up, it seemed to have pulled the tissue and fin with it.

I went to work and came home to find that two of the other hatchets have also passed, and was eaten up by the filter, all i can guess is that the fins got worse over time (a matter of hours), and literally couldn't swim no more.

I decided to quarantine the remaining hatchets as i was worried about the filter in a smaller tank, however this morning they didnt make it.

Did you get good results with interpet? did you stillhave all your plants and decorations in there..

thank you for your replu

Hello,

I took your advice and removed the snails and shrimps to another tank for the time being.
I reduced the medication on the yourself and vets advice.

I just think it so strange that the bigger fish seem (properly jinxing myself now), are not really affected.
The Acaras and Rainbow fish seem to be okay. One of the rainbow fish has about 3 parasites very strange.

Thank you for your input and time

Bless them.
R.I.P.

Good luck with the rest of the fish.

Just to let you know that i have cured the tank, i used am anti white spot treatment, separated the snails and shrimps and have finally returned them all to the original tank. No more casualty's or fatality.

Thank you for every ones input, I have traced the source back to the Hatchet's.

sorry to hear about your hatchets, i'm dealing with the same dilemma in my tank, its been a rough couple of weeks 3 cherry barbs, 2 neons dead. my 4 hatchets are still alive so i'm hoping they make it, they are my favorite tropical fish.try reading my threads also, some people have posted interesting information that might be able to help you. Yay tank back to normal, good job. I'm sorry i didn't read your last post.

That's good news.
Thanks for the update.
