hiya

this is first time ive posted but i often come on for advice. one of my tanks is aqua one 200 ltr. its well established and stocked with healthy corals, 2 anenomes, 2 maroon clowns, 4 damsels, a coral beauty and a blue cheeked goby oh and the boxer shrimp. all fish are very healthy.

the other day we decided to add a young emperor angel as we will be having a larger tank soon long before the emperor outgrows this one. anyway after a good couple of days the angel has become sick. he has been hiding behind the rocks and tonight we found him on the filter looking very very ill. we've put him in a breeding net with a little bit of food and are hoping he perks up a bit but its not lookng hopeful. am just wondering if anyone knows of anything that might help him a bit. i dont want to loose him as he is a beatiful fish and there is no reason for him to get sick in my tank as all is fine.

thanks

1 thing that may have caused a prob is that you are trying to keep 2 angels in the same tank which as far as i'm aware could cause probs with fighting ect which is why I only ever introduced one into my tank, other than that there is very little you can treat him with as its an unknown prob, have you considered garlic ect in with the emperor angels food along with vitamin supplements?

the angel could have been caught with cyanide, resulting in cyanide poisoning. Which, considering the state your fish is in, probably wont pull through. Read up on it and see if thats what it could be. Fingers crossed that it isnt.

thanks for your replies. on the issue of having 2 angels in the same tank, this is something we did think about before introducing the angel. i am lucky as in i have access to several matured marine tanks so we kept an eye on the coral beauty and emperor and were ready to seperate should any bullying occur. the emperor was quite timid when introduced to the tank, but did eat that night. since that night he has hidden himself away and there have been no signs of bullying, fighting. condition of the fish externally is spot on so no fighting wounds etc.

ive read up on the cyanide. i guess it could be an issue. i know the owners of the shop i had him from and i know he was in quarentine but how long for im not sure. in the shop he was swimming about fine and had been for a couple of days. he was housed with a goby and a cleaner shrimp. ill pop in tommorrow and ask them about his origins and what other fish they had in on this batch and what there status are now.

if he makes it through the night ill try some suppliments. we considered euthanasing earlier but have decided to see what happens over night.

thanks for the advice

Saltwaterfish.com (a common resource site) is highly pedantic on angel aggression. A coral beauty and an emperor shouldn't fight at all, so that probably wasn't the problem.

he was only in my tank for about 12 hrs before he started hiding. i didnt think it was too much of an issue coz he was so young anyway and its ususal behaviour for a new fish in an established tank, especially for a non aggressive fish.

unfortunatly he didnt make it thru the night. am sad to have lost him and would love to know why. this has happened to me before with a regal tang that was young, but no where near as quick as the angel has died. just to double check everything i will be taking a sample of water into the shop with me tommorrow and testing it for everything but as everything else in my tank is super happy i cant see it been that.

RIP angel.
