Hi all ,having had tropical fish for about 37 years in total,I am just about to change tanks due to a mishap/leak (hence damage to cabinets woodwork)on my 15 year old 5 sided tank and have recently whilst searching the Webb for a new tank found your Forum and I must say was quite impressed as years ago all I had was a dozen books or so to learn from. What I am asking is having looked at some of your recently set up tanks I see you have not used polystyring tiles between the tank and cabinet,is this a recent change or am I that antique.

Welcome to the forum!

A lot of the newer tanks nowadays have what's called a 'floating base' where the edging of the tank holds the glass off the surface underneath, so they don't need polystyrene under them.

Thanks for that fluttermoth, from your avatar are you a collecter of Rams? I used to keep them years ago but they never seemed to survive that long perhaps it was the water, as years ago I used to put lots of aditives in the tank, but none now.

TC

I only have two rams, both females at the moment, but they are one of my favourite fish :)

They are quite delicate though; you need very, very clean water with low nitrates to keep them, plus they need to be kept at rather higher temperatures than most other tropicals; around 28°C/82°F to do really well :)

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I'm researching rams at the moment and plan to get 3 bolivian(1m/2f)soon, not so delicate as the german blue.

Keith.
