what are the best tank mates for them at the moment i have two large discus and 2 corydoras and large tetras it is a 40 gallon tank also can or could i keep a ornate birchir in this tank

A P.delhezi's mouth is actually fairly small in relationship to its body considering other bichir if the tetras are deep bodied them should be alright the discus too odds are it might try the cories
while polypterides are predatory they are not overly agressive predators
That said i would look for for smaller more active species than an ornate which are mostly nocturnal good choices would be P.senegalus, and P. polli ( otf mislabeled as P. retropinnis and start a bichir tank -Anne

the bichir is only about 6 inches long and the cories are sterbei and the tetras are bleeding harts if that is any help

Bichirs are a fast growing fish and can grow as fast as 1" per month. I don't think it would be long before he started seeing those Cories as food. The Tetras are quite deep bodied but I would think they will still be food as the Bichir grows.
