Pogostemon Pastures

Thanks Ian, yeah it is but I just call it Hairgrass cos its easier to type lol, yeah I do like it but the constant runners are doing my head in as they're always 2 inches from the top, scissors at the ready.

it cuts really well as well. I would personally give it a good trim, taking a couple of inches off the top. This way it gets rid of that old LFS growth.

Lol I got it from Rorie, after its rooted I'll give it a good chomp anyway, just got CO2 running on it so should be growing a bit quicker soon.

Small update, Crypts are doing great, starting to get a bit taller and filling out a bit, the Helferi is doing ok in the middle of the tank but towards the front its not looking great so if it doesn't make it then its time for a little more Riccia. The Hairgrass isn't looking good either, there's some large clumps that have died but I think the rest should be ok.

Wow! thats great :D
Haha gives me ideas for my fry tank

Thanks, I'll give it a trim tomorrow and get some more pics up,

Hi guys I now have algae lol, only on the pogostemon. The whole tank had a slight sort out as a couple of plants melted so I spread out the crypts as they are growing fast for crypts and the pogostemon has spread nicely too but has some diatoms or brown algae on the leaves. I just got a new filter and it's flow is nice and strong right across the pogostemon but the algae is still there, I wonder if it's the CO2 fluctuating as it's the nutrafin kit, I set up CO2 as I know the pogostemon does better with it but maybe I should go with flourish excel as it's only 32 litres and do away with the nutrafin kit, what ya reckon?

liquid co2 might be easier... that would be my preference for a small tank, if you can remember to dose it lol.

How often are you water changing? Can you put a piccy up? :)

I'll add a pic later on, I'm doing every other day water changes now 30% ish, just got some flourish excel from eBay so hopefully won't be long as I removed the yeast kit now.

Right here's the new update, the hair grass rotted ages back so I whipped that out and binned it, a couple of the Crypts totally melted in the process but everything else was growing great so I had a little move around. There is still algae on the Pogostemon but I'm doing 30% water change every other day, I removed the yeast CO2, angled the spray bar straight at it and ordered some Excel which I started dosing today, so with any luck the algae will clear out.

Also got some needle leaf fern from liana_y2kuk so I cut a bit of root from my garden stash and tied it on just to see how it does, I know its dead centre at the moment but I may put in another to the right above the moss and Anubias to balance the little scape.

Hemianthus micranthemoides!!!

Hemianthus micranthemoides!!!
Is this your new thing then, plant tourettes?! ;)

Seriously though, it looks good, I agree that another branch with fern to the right of the one currently in there would be good, it would make it less central.

If I recall correctly, it takes a couple of weeks for the plants to adjust to liquid co2 so you might not see an improvement immediately. I may be wrong about that though...

Yeah I'm just hoping the right levels and flow will get rid of the algae now and hopefully everything will thicken up.

Yes plant torretts unfortunatly lol
