I've got an assortment of fish in my tank, but this post concerns only two of them.
I've had a tri-colour shark in my tank since week 2 (we're now on week 4 with fish, the shark is about an inch and a half long). It has ignored my other fish for the most part, although I do think it was partially to blame for the missing guppy frys. Anyway, I added a small pleco (no idea what kind of Pleco, the LFS just had him labelled as Pleco) to the tank the other day to deal with my algae build up (the pleco is about an inch and a half long and currently un-named). Soon after the Pleco was added to the tank, my shark went over to investigate, as he does with all new comers to the tank. The issue is, is that instead of investigating the pleco, irritating him for a bit by constantly swimming around him for a bit, and leaving it alone like it does to most fish, it stayed near the pleco. I sat watching the two of them for a while, and the shark would pick at the gravel in the tank as if looking for stray flakes, and then pick at the pleco's tail. There doesn't appear to be anything missing from the pleco, but is there a way to make the pleco less attractive to my shark? Apparently, in the eyes of Bruce (the shark), Pleco=food. There is a dalmatian molly the same size as the shark in the tank, so I doubt it's a size issue. I made sure there are plenty of places to hide in the tank, although Bruce seems to like exploring all of them.
Is there anything reason why the shark would be going after the Pleco?
Is there any way I can make the Pleco less attractive to the shark?
