I am pondering on whether I could / should add a pleco in my tank. I have a two foot by one foot tank which is running gloriously at the moment - current inhabitants include :

4 neons
1 glowlight
5 zebra danios
3 peppered corys

I would love to add a pleco for assistance in keeping my algae down and for their general look (?!) however I have only ever seen really quite big ones. Can anyone suggest any other community algae eaters which would be sufficient in my tank ?

I am also looking for some more colourful fish to add to my clan - suggestions would be very gratefully received !!!

Thanks for your help - Tippy x x x :p

Tippy,

I would suggest looking at a small Ancistrus (only get to approx 5 inches) or maybe some Otto's.......

HTH.... :D

:) Plecos are great, but one will soon outgrow a 10 gallon tank. (I should know, I had two). Plus, they are BIG ammonia producers.

I was gonna say the same. If I count right, u got roughly 30" fish...sh. be fully stocked; dont think I'd push it.

do plecos really create alot of ammonia?anyone know why that is?is there any other fish that you can use to clean the tank which do not creat amonnia?snails maybe? :/

Definitely go for a dwarf pleco rather than a Common Pleco - I recently saw some in Bristol Zoo and the biggest was approx. 2 foot long, nose to tail! He was in a tank with some absolutely enormous pacu.
