adopted a pleco when i went to collect some guppys a few weeks back, it had outgrown the guys aqua cube so he gave it to me as a freebie. just wondering is it a female bn?

it has some fin damage which im not sure how it happened but does look like its beginning to heal. its been in quarantine for 10 days and now been added to the community tank. also if it is a bn do they get on with common plecs as there are a few in that tank. they had a bit of a chase when this new one went in and have now stayed at seperate sides of the tank all day?

yeah it is a female, dunno about them getting on with common plecs though. My parents have a common and a gibby but for some reason the common hates the gibby, who knows why. All fish tend to be different, just wait and see if they all settle down. How big is your tank anyway?

this one is 200L.

the commons, once big enough will be moving to a 500L, but they cant go yet as they are too small and will be eaten alive.

may i ask whats the difference between a common and a gibbicep? im confused as i always thought they were the same thing?

when small you dont see much of a difference but when they grow they look much different. Common plecs are more black and grey while gibiceps have a leapord like pattern to them and are a dark brown colour, I will see if i can find a good pic. When they grow gibiceps get reeeeeeeeally broad while common plecs just grow in length. I seen a huge gibi once in a pet store and it's head was massive, it was a good 4-6 inches in thickness and about 2-3 foot in length.
