I'm getting a Juwel Lido 120 for christmas and I want a small pleco.

The dimensions are: 61L x 41D x 58H. About 34g or so water. Filters will have a 8.4x turnover per hour.

Anyone got any suggestions on which breed I should get?

One from the many in Ancistrus, Peckoltia, Hypancistrus.

what will tank mates be, how much do you want to spend?

Not sure how much I want to spend, I like the more exotic ones but they're like 30 quid.

Tank Mates:

6 Silver Tips
6 Cherry Barbs
3 Pearl Gouramis
2 Angelfish
1 Yo Yo Loach
1 Zebra Danio
1 American Flagfish
Maybe 6 chain loaches or emperor tetras

On Sand too.

The plecos I like off the top of my head:

Clown Pleco
Tiger Pleco
King Tiger Pleco
Queen Arabseque Pleco
Bristlenose Pleco

Bristlenose would be the cheapest, but King Tiger and other similar Hypancistrus are stunning to look at. I've got L333's which are lovely fish but my most visible plec is my Flash Plec who was not cheap but is well worth every penny.

All have different dietary requirements.

king tiger and QA are meat eaters, bristlenose is a herbi/omnivore and clown and tiger (if its what i think it is) are woodeaters.

the king tiger and the QA will probably be the most expensive, bristlenose the cheapest.

So basically KT and QA like catfish pellets
bn like algae and catfish pellets
clown and tiger like bogwood, do they like algae and pellets?

plecs will eat pretty much anything its about what they should eat.

'catfish pellets' could contain anything, my a carnivore i mean, prawns, mussels, bloodworm etc etc although they should have a little veg matter for balance.

clowns and tiger will eat high protein food as well (ie meat) but it will lead to bloat and gut problems if fed too often

and bristlenoses do best on fresh veg like courgette with the odd meaty treat thrown in

Ok my pellets have:

Ingredients: Fish and fish derivatives, cereals, molluscs and crustaceans (7%), vegetables, derivatives of vegetable origin and yeasts.

Typical Analysis: Vitamin A 15000 IU/kg; Vitamin D3 2100 IU/kg; Vitamin E 100 IU/kg; Protein 44%; Fat 5%, Fibre 2%, Moisture 8%, Phosphorus 0.8%; Ash 9%.

I'd still tailor the diet to the fish you end up getting, the pellets will be ok but i wouldn't use them as staple diet for any of them.

Ok then I'm going to the shop later which has lots of plecos in atm, it'll gauge me a price for them.

I'll come back here and work out a diet for the one I want.

I went back today and I'm undecided, I'm going to wait to see my financial situation after christmas, I'd like a Queen Arabseque if possible.

If its an active plec you are after chances are the bristlenose, being tank bred, will be the most outgoing yes.

but half the fun of plec keeping is spending over 30 quid on a fish you never see ;)
