Please Help With My New Tank!

That is such a good point!! I think I will measure the space the tank takes up and see if I can get a rectangular one with a larger volume but not much bigger in wigdth/height/depth. Thanks for the advice!!
Very happy to help :D . I hope you can find one to fit. I'm sure you won't regret getting a bigger one. Good luck :good:

So which are the best fish to put with ADFs? I have read that Bettas, Platies, Mollies, Swordtails, Tetras, Corycats & Dwarf Gouramis are good - any comments on these or suggestions of others? We'd also like a Bala Shark but how big do they usually get?

all of the first group of fish you mentioned will work with the frogs if you get a bigger tank. bala sharks grow to about 14 inches and need to be in groups. you would need a tank up in the 100's of gallons.

IMO your tank is far too small for anything at all really. It would really be much easier to get yourself a 10 gallon .

It really won't take up very much space, my 12 gallon is 18 inches long and on a desk. A ten gallon tank would be approx 12-14 inches long and would still easily fit on a good solid desk or worktop.

The bigger the tank the easier it is to take care of, and you could keep in a ten gallon, fish such as :

A single male betta OR
A dwarf Gourami

You could keep either of those with:

Some pygmy cories (4-6)
A colony of shrimp

Or for something small and colourful:

A colony of all male guppies or Endlers ( 6-8 )

You would be better off keeping the fish and frogs together if you had a 20 gal or bigger. The fish need to be able to get well away from the frogs. Personally I would never mix fish and frogs in the first place no matter what the tank size. It would make things easier to pick EITHER fish or frogs . If you've never done tropicals before then it's best to make things as simple as possible.

Corries and ADFs personalities would go together, but they need different types of subsitrates (grownd stuff). Corries do best in sand because it doesn't wear down thier wiskers, while ADFs often get impactions from the sand. ADFs need larger gravle. I have, in separate tanks, kept both though, and loved them.

Hi again all! Just wanted to say thanks everyone for their comments. I took all your advice and am delighted with my new fish!! I have 2 Sunset Platies, 4 Neon Tetras and a ADF. They all seem to be loving their new home so far!! Thanks again for the tips. X
