Please Help Me

One of my little fellas has got fin rot, he looks awful I'm so worried about him. I have read that fin rot is due to stress - I clean them out regulary every few days, and 100% once a week so it can't be bad water conditions, but I have noticed he hates his new filter. My other two are fine with theirs but he really can't stand the current at all - it's only a small filter with a low current, but it drives him mad. So I have removed it, am I right to do this - can he live without a filter. He seems so much calmer now without it. I'm so worried about him though. I'm adding Melafix - is there anything else you recommend.

No filter and regular water changes will be fine for you're guy

Melafix is all I've ever heard, apart from salt - but I'm pretty sure Melafix will be a better healing medication. Melafix, a heater, and sparkling clean water!

I am going to swap his tank with my little guy in the kitchen so that I can clean him out much easier and keep him really, really spakling clean. He does have a heater so he is nice and warm. I just hope I can help him - I'm so upset.

Try and keep his temperature a bit warmer, white spot attacks when there's open wounds/injuries so a temperature around 30c will help to keep it in the water instead of one you're fish! But if he seems lethargic after you increase the temperature, drop it down a bit as it could make him uncomfortable.

did you say 100% water change you do as that would not be good for them only do that as a must regular 20-30% should be fine

I've given him 100% today - and soaked all his rocks etc in boiling water to try and help get rid of some of the bacteria. Is that ok? Usually the filtered tanks get 20 - 30% a couple of times a week - but without a filter I thought he should have 100% once a week, as well as the small changes every few days - is this not correct? I don't want to hurt him further.

i dont no alot about bettas but i would just do a 30% every couple oy days if you dont have filters running in there if your doing 100% that would stress him out 2

I've always done 100 per cent water changes, even with filters. 100 per cent changes are the norm with unfiltered tanks and shouldn't be a problem IMO as long as the water is the same temp and the pH is the same.

make sure you only add 1/2 the recommended dose of melafix. the suggested dose is a bit strong for bettas

100% wc are good,

i would suggest doing a 30-40% wc every 3 days, then a 100% every other week.

MYXAZIN used over 5 days treament will sort the problem out, but there must not be aquarium salt in the tank as this will be dangerous to use for your little guy. you may have to add the filter aagin to keep the flow of water circulating until the treatment is over, you should see a change in the 2nd day of treatment, try and put something in the way of the direct outlet of the filter this will aid the current a bit that he doesnt like, its only a temporary need for the filter until meds are finished.

a good idea would be to buy a sponge filter and have it on the lowest possible setting controlled by a check valve on the airline.
