Please Can Anyone Advise On Which Would Be A Good Fish?

Dimensions are 92cm x 41cm x 55cm, but please bear in mind that it is a bow fronted tank. Approximate volume 180 ltr (approx 40 Gallons (UK)).

Julia

Yeah, I got a vision 260 and the width at the end of the tank is only 13" compared to 18" or so in the centre, which makes it awkward to have larger fish as they will find it hard to turn at the ends of the tank.

Is the tank 41 cm in the centre of the tank or at the edges? I think it will most likely be the centre so going on that ratio, I'm guessing the edges will be around 11" or so at the ends so the largest cichlid I would put in that tank would be 6"ish (possibly 7) depending on real dimensions.

A blue acara sounds good in that size tank, I'd have another similar sized cichlid as well, some options could be:
Firemouth
Convict
Sajica
Rainbow cichlid
Flyer cichlid
Honduran red point

You are right. The end depth is 30 cm (12") and the center depth is 41 cm (16"). So, would your suggestion be one of each species?

Would I be able to keep any of my other fish? The current stocking is:

1 x adult male Bristlenose Pleco
1 x adult female Bristlenose Plece.
Numerous baby Bristlenoses which need to go.
8 x Bronze Corydora
1 x Garra Flavatra
1 x Neon Rainbow
3 x Columbian Red Finned Tetra
2 x 3 1/2" Pearl Gourami
6 x Spotted Danio

Nah, sorry for the misunderstanding my suggestion was for one of the fish on the list to accompany the blue acara.

Blue acaras should get on with bristlenose, corys (though I've heard some say they don't), garra, columbian tetra.

The neon rainbow and spotted might be on the menu when the blue acara gets older. The pearl gourami might get beaten on too much by the blue acara. Each fish's personality is different, especially with cichlids so its fairly impossible to say something will work or wont work for certain. The best people can offer is guidelines and their experiences. If you want to keep your current stock, look at smaller, more peaceful south american dwars (rams, apisto's, keyholes) as these have a better chance of working.

Sorry, I think I may be confusing everyone.

My current setup is per my last post. I am no longer excited by my tank, so want a change to less, and more characterful fish. The only fish I insist on keeping is my male Bristlenose Pleco. I wouldn't mind keeping my Cories, but it it not the end of the world if I dont. All the others can go, and I need to speak to to my LFS and see that he will take them.

I like the sound of the Blue Acara, and I think I understand, that I would be better keeping it alongside another, similarly sized cichlid, as per Shroom's suggestion.

Julia

Well, I have been to my LFS and he has agreed to take my other fish. At the moment he has some Firemouth's and some rather lovely looking Geophagus Jurupari. What do you think of those in my 39G? Stocking numbers?

Julia

Jurupari will unfortunately get too big, but the firemouth sounds a good option.

So the stocking would be 1 blue acara, 1 firemouth and 1 BN plec, which is reasonable stocking if you like those fish.

Good job I asked then as he told me I could have 6 in my tank!!!!

I will need to find a good source for a blue Acara. Does it matter which sex?

Would I be able to keep my small shoal of Broze Cories too? They are approx 2".
