Platy - Is This Female And Is She Pregnant

Happy to hear that your female is giving birth and all is well. Its good that you can't see them all, it means the fish can't see them all either. It will lead to a higher survival rate. I am going to try to attach 2 pictures if I can figure it out. The first is a red wag platy female. The second is a red wag male. The difference is obvious between the male and female anal fins, that is the fin about halfway back on the bottom side of their body. Here goes nothing.

if its about 4-8 weeks, that means they cant breed in that time right??as with all the others pregnant i could see myself easily getting in over my head , any suggestions to stop that from happening, how do you stop this with yours

If the male has his gonopodium, then breeding will commence lol...

male (note the backwards pointing penis hehe) - no anal fin

female (note the anal fin)

brilliant, i now know what to look for,

all the babies are doing fine, all eating from what i can see,and are showing their colours, only 1 dark one in all of them, they are so cute tho, im totally besotted.
the orange female is still in the little tank,( did a little water change on it) but she must be due any second now, and i dont want to put her back in the main tank as that other male was bullying her, she is very happy in there shes eating and seems fine, not stressed at all-from what i can tell, fingers crossed she has them soon as although she seems happy in there i dont want to leave her in there too long as it may be a bit of a shock when she needs to go back into the main tank,,, so heres hoping tonights the night

do they prefer to give birth in the dark-late night or is it like us,just happens when it happens?????

think she is done now,i make it about 36 babies, i noticed a definate pattern in her behaviour, she was going mental swimming up and down the side of the tank, then went quiet at the bottom and one popped out, i got to see most of them this time, as last time, it was in the middle of the night and was hard to see, so i am well chuffed..
have added a little video you can i think see one being born, not very clear tho this camera is nt very good, mind,im no david bailey either!!....
have to say im over the moon....here she is,

:good:

Great to see it all went well, you seem to have a good system with the way you are doing it and im very happy for you, hope all thr fry grow well :)

have put the mum back in the main tank, and she is doing fine, the babies have all been moved to the same tank as the others, i think i can put the weeny tank away now for a while,( i can see at least 2 more pregnant so ill keep an eye on them) and get a decent nites sleep, cant remeber the last time i had a full nites sleep, worrying a bout wether or not babies would arrive in the night....now i know how my ex felt lol.....thankyou to everyone for your contributions, especialy you 5teady,and to everyone for your congrats...

;) hia everyone, heres an update on my babies, they are 4 days and 2 days old and doing ever so well, swimming at all levels of the tank now ( not sure when i should put more water in im scared ill drown them, they have tonnes of room just now tho so its not an urgent question) anyway heres afew i managed to catch in one corner just after i changed the water and did i quick hoover,
they are growing so fast,i cant believe its only 4 days since i saw those tiny clear specks being born, they are still eating crunched up flakes i did try them with some sinking food, which they did eat some of but not enough to stop it going furry-hence the hoovering, its a shame i dont have a decent camera i cant get a good close up of them, but wont be long and they will be as big as their mums at this rate.and i havent lost any (touch wood)so at least something is going right for a change lol.
anyway as usuall all advice gratefully recieved xxxxxx
