Platy - Is This Female And Is She Pregnant

i have netted the other pregnant one that about the same size if not bigger and put her in this teeny weeny tank with a teeny weeny heater (26) and a little air stone, i dont have a filter to put in there, but as its just over night will it be ok to just do a water change before putting her back in,using the water from the main tank as if she hasnt had babies then i could put her back into the main tank and back in here again tommorow night ( like above)
the tank is more of a pencil pot its that small, but shes very calm in there ( i took water from her tank) please let me know if it too small, but saying that its bigger than the net that the other one is in so i hope its ok,

well will update on any news in the morning or thru the night,as i wont be able to sleep tonight

ps yes i have switched off the speakers

Yeah that will be fine, like you said: just fill it half with water form your main tank (might as well make it a waterchange ;))

The top it up with conditioned water... I shouldnt really need a waterchange tomorrow though, just check stats and if there ok, dont bother doing it just leave her in til drops... if the levels do go higher, just do a 30% waterchange :)

its 12.23 and she up to 13 babies.......omg i cant believe it, the one in the net as far as i can see is still not ready, but bloody hell ( oops) i cant believe it,,, wish you were here i mean online as i have no idea what to do now, she s still giving birth, but i cant see them all as i put more plants in the tank, they are just so tiny... have to go im shaking with excitement
will give more details and some pics in a few hours

thankyou wayne, dont think i would be seeing any of this if you hadnt help me out xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

hi (yes i have calmed down lol)
i have now moved mum into the main tank, and she is very happyily swimming about and had a good breakfast,
i had a good look in the fry tank and there are 24-26 in there, gave them a tiny bit of nutrafin max flakes that i spent ages grinding up with the back of a spoon, so hope thats appropriatefed at 1am and 8 am
i cant tell as yet if there are any non survivers, but just at the moment there dont seem to be, but i understand that i need to get them to 2 weeks, to be sure..
update on the mumtobe in the net:
she didnt show any signs last night or this morning,so i have put her back in the main tank, shes quite happy shes eating, and i will just keep a careful eye on her .and put her in the trap when i see signs-lingering at the filter/heater etc,

anyway back to the babies, right whats next?.. as there is no filter in the fry tank, and lots of crumbs on the floor, should i test the water and do a little water change if needed ( we only talked about doing one for mum this morning)and also should i leave the temp at 26 (tho more liuke 28-30 as the heater is really tiny and difficult to adjust) if not then please advice on decrease,
i think thats all my Q`s but any other advice would be fab.. i have added a little video, but as the tank is black on the bottom its a bit tricky to see anything, but i think you will see them fliting about..

a massive thanks again to 5teady for all your help.and stang for the brass band lol-very kind of you xxxxxx

Hello and congrats :hooray:

While the fry are growing in the tank, you might want to invest in a small sponge filter that runs off a air pump..

For now though the fry will not create enough waste to make a big diffrence.. although if you keep a check on the water stats and do daily water changes to keep the levels stable...

When you get your sponge filter, you can put it in the tank and continue to do water changes daily if the levels go high, in the meantime the sponge filter will cycle ( i added a bit of my old media to my sponge filter to boost it)...

Or the other option is to put them in the net.. and let them grow in there.. if other females become ready to drop, you then have the other tank free :)

the babies are all doing fine, they have been eating the finely crunched flakes,i have now moved them to a larger tank, dont know what size it is as i cant find my tape measure to do the maths, but i half filled it with water from the main tank ( tests are all brill and did a small wc earlier),,i was thinking that if the other platy (orange) has her babies tonight ( shes in the weeny tank as the orange male was not leaving her alone, i left her till i could see she had really had a gut full, but i think she wont be long now) i could put them in together, and doing the maintence then on 5 tanks wouldnt be so hard(time wise) and then in a few days i could add the rena filster sponge filter that i have ,its a small one but i think it will still be too powerfull at the moment, then i could put some back in with the ones i have in a few weeks -split sexes into diffrent tanks, by the way, what age can they be sexed at?,and by the time they are all sorted it should be time for the other females to have there fry((i make it sound simple ey lol)) anyway plenty of tanks here so i will muddle through somehow.
have added a pic of the new tank, maybe someone could guess the size lol,the one on the floor at the other side of the big tank is neon, and guppies,so may be able to put a couple in there.
but no im definatley not even considering keeping the well over 200 that i may end up with....anyway any advice gratefully recieved as usuall

Hellooooo :)

The fry can usually be sexed after 4-8 weeks (this is when the males will have a visible gonopodium) but it can take longer depending on the fish, diet etc.. The females usually show a gravid spot after about 4-10 weeks again depending on the fish, diet etc..

The small tank looks about 12x8x8 by the pic but thats just a rough guess lol...

Glad everything is going well :)

OMG my son has just very kindley reminded me that i have another tank hidden in the bottom of his wardrobe (( have to hide them as the ex moans about the money spent lol@him))
and its the same size as the platy tank!!

what a dilema, but lets face its i could end up with thousands if i start that carry on,and my lounge is already atarting to smell like my lfs lol

if its about 4-8 weeks, that means they cant breed in that time right??as with all the others pregnant i could see myself easily getting in over my head , any suggestions to stop that from happening, how do you stop this with yours
