Platy Gives Birth To More Then 50!?!

Hi,
 
I have 3 tanks and my friend has 1. We are breading platy and others between us and recently purchased a penn-plax nursery (which is great, caught all the babies) but when we emptied the fry into a large holding net in the tank there was over 50! I have read that platy only have upto 20-30 at a time.
 
So just wanted to know if this is know before or if I have a super-mum platy!

20 -30 is more usual, but they can certainly have more than that. My ex had a platy that had 63 and I heard of a guppy once that had 70!

Yeah, I had 2 mollies that had some 65 fry each every month.  The number of fry per batch just depends on the fish. Good luck with your fry!

There was someone on here(Fish48 I think) that had a female guppy give birth to over 150 babies at one time

Platies can certainly have more than 20-30 babies at one time but that's generally the usual amount.
 
Edit: Found the thread and I was off by the numbers lol. It was 141 fry.

Mine was about 30ish per month.
 
I had a guppy nearly 2 years ago who had 81 babies... but she died shortly after... was her first batch too.

Thank you for the replies, I dont have the world record then (lol)! All the babies are doing fine, here is a pic 5 min after birth in the Penn-Plax Aqua Nursery.

@DiddleBug Yes that is the nursery, its so ggod that me and my mates have ditched all the other intank floating type and got 3 more of the penn-plax ones!
