My platy fry are now 6 weeks old,

but some are alot bigger than others, is this normal or are some getting more food than others?

i have aprox 20 in a 20 litre tank, i have homes for some when they get abit bigger.

how old do they need to be before they are big enough to go in with the bigger fish?

some fry have faster metabolisms than others. They need to be an inch long before they should be reintroduced although even at that size, they can still get harassed.

also the biggest fry releases a chemical which slows the growth of others so do frequent water changes (all fry realease it to be dominant)

isnt it safe for the fry to be in the main tank after 1 month?

Yeah im most cases but some people have Angels and they will eat ANYTHING the fatties...i tried with a fry who was a very fast grower and put it in the main tank, The Angel was like a bullet from a gun!!! but I managed to save it, B4 it hit the dark end of the Angels b*m..lol
wow that was really like a story lmao

but yeh most fry u can...just depends!!!

:p

Ummm again depends...if they are hungry then most lightly but i dont no as dont have danios...If I was u, I would wait till they get bigger and do a test run like me...but you must be quick as they wil be eaten if they can get them...Make sure you have got a net at the ready lol.
goodluck tho :)

make sure the filter cant suck them up, then u feel horrible thinking of how they are dying stuck in a filter. u get the picture :good:

if the danios are hungry they will eat them and maybe eat them any way but if they have a place to hide then most will probaly not served for dinner but some are big and some are small its just the ones that are the fittest will grow bigger.

i just released a fry today and it was nipped at first, then i fed them and they leave it alone. the fish get used to having smaller fish with them after an hour.

The rule of thumb is when they are too big to fit in the biggest fish's mouth. There is no way for us to tell you how your fish may react to the fry, since all fish are different. I have a Kissing Gourami that's 8" long and will not touch fry, I have a Platy that's 1" long and goes after everything and anything. So it really depends on your fish. But when the fry are too big to fit in their mouths, they should be good.

also the biggest fry releases a chemical which slows the growth of others so do frequent water changes
Just curious...where'd you hear that?

*perks up ears* yes id be interested to know, with my fry the only difference im seeing is different growth rates: also wouldnt this be counter survival: what i mean is what advantage would this be in the wild? it sort of defeats the purpose of having multiple fry.
