Hello everybody. I'm currently cycling my 10 gallon tank. I am going to add 5 flame tetras, 2 mystery snails, and 1 ghost shrimp. This leads up to my question. Is there room for a platy? I really want one but I'm not sure if there is enough room. I'm not even sure if they can be kept in singles either. I hear they can get up to 3 inches. Is 3 inches common or uncommon? If I would get one I would buy a red-wag platy.

Thanks in advance. :)

Platies are compatible....I have a 10-gallon tank too and have only 3 male platies so far...planning to add some more soon.
Here's a good site for fish compatibility:

Thanks but is that overstocking?

I'm not expert on stocking, but 5 flame tetras and 2/3 platies in a 40-odd litre (sorry I only work in litres!) sounds ok to me. That said, Flame Tetras are shoaling so you'd probably want to go 6 of them and 2 platies.

I think i'm going to add the Flame tetras and everything else first. I'll see if it looks like there is enough room. If there is I'll add the two platys.

Thank you so much for your reply. :D
