Plastic Or Real Plants?

Tomorrow I'm going to be getting a new betta and I would like to know whether I should get live or plastic plants? The last few times I have gotten real plants, my tanks have gotten infested with snails so that's why I'm leaning more towards plastic plants. If I do get real plants which types should I get that my betta will like? And is there anything you have to do with them or do you just stick them in your tank?

Live plants or silk. Plastic plants can rip the bettas fins.

I have swords and Anubis that my betta likes to rest on. He hides behind a moss ball too. He had a little jungle in the corner of his tank where he builds his bubble nest.

If you want to stop the snails, check the plant thoroughly before for hitch hikers

Live plants! I think it adds a whole new dimension to fishkeeping. One that I am new to and quite enjoying. Call me crazy, but I have noticed a change in my fish since adding the new live plants. (Probably me just thinking they're happiers) Cheers and good luck.

If you are worried about snails you can check it before you put it in. If you do get snails there are threads on here that have multiple ideas of how to remove the snails. Have fun!

You will need a live plant substrate. Also, most likely an upgrade in lighting.

Live plant substrate? I'm just using play sand and super low lighting, and my plants are doing fine. You just need to pick out the right ones, is all.

k so don't bother with live plant substrate or lighting then... simple just plant and go


For me, I used a plant substrate, and I improved my lighting. Substrate was cheap. I wanted to upgrade my lighting anyhow, and I absolutely love the LED lights. Up to you.

I have Java Fern in my Betta tank. He likes to rest on the leaves!

I use play sand and under substrate root tabs, with liquid ferts in the water. I do not have upgraded lighting and my plants flourish
I have amazons and argentenians

in my 15g i just stuck my plants in the sand and its doing great and i dont have any substrate in it

be careful when shopping at pet stores for real plants as i know a few around where i live like mix semi-aquatic plants in with aquatic plants (i think im using the right terms)

Alright, so can you just stick them in gravel too? You don't have to use sand?
