Set this spawn up on the 21st of September. After three attempted releases, they spawned around 3:30pm today, Sept 27/06. They're sibs and they're from Synirr's Leviathan x Blondie spawn. The parents aren't marbled but should eventually marble up as both Leviathan and Blondie were marbles...Anyways, here's some pictures (some aren't working due to webhost being down):

They tried wrapping for an hour or so before they got it right. The male was stunning himself most of the first attempts:

Here's a nice photo of a wrap:

There aren't a ton of eggs, but I am happy with a small spawn as I want to spawn the girl to a different male in a month or so. Here's a pic of the nest. The father has been expanding it nicely since I took the female out.

thanks! Really glad Synirr picked out a nice male for me. These two are very well matched to eachother. Can't wait till they marble up (Synirr said they will probably be late marblers since their father was too). If any of the kids look anything like Leviathan or these two parents I'll be one happy guy :)

Whooo Hooo!! And the invasion of Synirr grandkids in Canada begins! Can't wait Ian to see how the adults marble up, and for this spawn to hatch for you! I so wish I lived closer, I'd be over everyday checking stuff out!

Update: the eggs hatched on the 28th at night. They were swimming vertically for the most part on the 29th at night. I had to leave for the weekend (horrible timing) and was given advice against trying to move them twice this weekend (friday and then sunday). There's plenty of live plants (infusoria to hold the mover until sunday) and they're not even horizontal swimmers yet. They won't be fed until Sunday night, which isn't the best choice, but it's the best of the options I have right now (unplanned need to be away). I'm hoping most of them will live, but am expecting at least some to die off.

I've seen at least 20 or so at any given time so it's hopefully close to my original guess of 30 to 50.

I don't have a decent digital camera so I won't be able to post pictures for at least a few weeks, but I'll keep you updated once I get a semi-accurate count.

Cheers,

-Ian

update. they're just under 10 weeks. I wish I had started feeding frozen brine shrimp earlier than just last week. As soon as I started feeding the frozen foods the bigger fish from the spawn just shot off in size. here's some pics of the biggest. They're really starting to grow in body girth now as well as length, and I can see some ray branching starting. They're about 1.25 inches now (nowhere near the pro breeder's length at this age, but I'm happy with progress so far and they should really grow fast now if I continue with multiple feedings of frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms)...Anyways, here's the pics of just three of the biggest 5.

OMG!! How cute are they!! I love the diversity of all the babies. Knowing nothing about genetics I find it so cool to see that the parents produced colors nothing like themselves really.

That little man with the huge belly is so cute!!
