Hey,

I've seen a few of these little guys around and was wondering if anyone could give me some information!? I knwo they only grown to a couple of inches and wondered whether i need to put them in groups!?

at the minute i've got a group of 5 otos in a 4ft tank so I'm not sure whether a group of pitbull plecs would be a good idea in there too? I've also got a big plec in that tank (gold nugget i think) so dont know if that would be over-crowding on the bottom feeders!?

alternatively, I could put the pitbulls in a 60 litre tank that looks like its going to have a betta, some pygmy corys, some spotted rasboras (and maybe a honey gourami if i cant find him another home) OR move the otos to the 60l and put the pitbulls in the 4ft!?

any help and/or info would be great!

Thanks

In addition to the above links i keep Otos and Parotocinclus (Parotocinclus Jumbo = pitbulls) together and find they make an excellent combination, the pitbulls get the best out of the Otos who will follow them round and seem to gain in confidence when near by. They seem to compliment each other really well.

My Otos also took to courgette and algae wafers really quickly by apparently following the Parotocinclus, they now nearly always feed together in a large group.

Another thing to watch out for are contaminants, there were at least three Parotocinclus in the LFSs tank that weren't Pitbulls, this is apparently very common.

I bought one of these, who now seems to spend all his time apart from the Pitbulls and Otos, in retrospect i think it would have been kinder if i hadn't bought him and had taken another Pitbull instead.

I'm guessing you mean the one you posted a pic of in the other thread... if you weren't so far away I would offer to buy him from you so he could accompany my 2 Gold Spot Dwarf Plecs, they're more individuals and I was looking for others to bolster them into a group.

I wouldn't say they're great algae eaters but then again I don't have much algae for them to eat

aha!

Thanks germ - I've been worrying about my silly little otos anyway - they never seem to eat anything (but all still alive so must be!). would 2 or 3 of the plecs be enough?

thanks guys!! :D

3 would be best and like Germ says I wouldnt worry about mixing them in with Otos as they eat different things.

The Otos are on the lookout for certain types of algae whereas the pitbulls are scavengers and tend to eat algae by accident when it is on their favourite bogwood. They alsoeat any leftovers that make the bottom of the tank.

They look great on the glass when they do decide to take on some glass cleaning duties.

They also prefer light sand as a substrate because they can blend in with it and often bury themselves in it.

I feed them both the same catfish pellets once a week just to supplement them a little.

Andy
