Hello,

Around 4-5 weeks ago i bought 3 pinkish algae eaters, and i went for vacation. When i got back one of the algae eaters grew to about 2.5 inches long (and got fat too) while the other two stayed around the same size ( 1.5 inches). What could have been the cause for this? it seems my small skinny ones are starving :-(

ALso one of the small algae eaters seemed to have lost its mouth. :/ well, at least the sucking part. It can't even stick on the glass anymore. Does that mean it's starving?? poor him :(

Hope someone can help me

hi there bubbletea!

wish i could help :-( but i'm a n00b fishkeeper :/

I've never heard of a pink algae eater :S
any chance of a pic?

to answer your question
it is possible that the larger one is the alpha fish and therfor
gets to eat first and fullest; thus growing quicker.

I've seen a "Pink Algae Eater" before in a local garden centre(i dont go there anymore, around 25% of their fish are dyed), and it was indeed just a dyed Chinese algae eater.

Thats probably what you have, and i'll tell you now, you should probably get rid of those fish to your lfs. They get big and need to be kept alone :( . You can read up on them here.

if im correct you can get 2 colours of CAE one being the orange type 1 and the other being white with signs of pink , the pink seems to come out more as it gets a little bigger ie a couple of inches or more. :good:
