Photo Of The Month?

i, as well as many other members, have been on other fish forums and saw something called Photo of the Month.
the forum i was using, not sure i can put the URL so i won't, deals with bigger fish (may have given it away there) rather than normal sized and community fish and i have just entered in their photo of the month. the bad thing is, as i have no fish that grow to huge sizes, my photos don't stand a chance!

surely "photo of the month" can't be copyrighted right?
i think it would be so much fun for this forum and it would allow community fish keepers to enter their photos of their fish where they can actually be registered and taken into consideration by other members.

It's been discussed before. Short answer, not happening. There used to be similar things, the system was abused by a few idiots. Thereoretically there's nothing to stop individual sections doing something like that, the trouble is moderation and stopping cheats.

well that sucks! i think it would be great, just a little pinned post or 2 in the tropical discussion or aquarium pictures area.
what were people doing like?

we've got the pet of the month thing in the household pets section which runs pretty well i think.

i think what happened before is people get pics from the internet, stuff that isn't theirs and enter it to win. bit of plagarism and relativley minor fraud. classic case of a few idiots spoling it for everyone tbh.

right, well, i dont understand that last post lol

how about we run a little Photo of the Month, next month, in the tropical discussion to see how it turns out?
rules would be needed to prevent plagarism and editing (photoshopping etc) so basically, you take the photo and then enter it.
i dont know about everybody else but i think it would be great!

Too much work for the mods really and not much payback. I mean you could always just post pictures in the "Member's Aquarium and Fish Pictures" section. Why does it need to be voted on? That way, everyone's a winner.

Im pretty sure that Oohfeeshy was rather replying to andywg's post.

I think it's just going to cause more trouble than it's worth. I'm with wendywc, why do people need to feel as if their photo needs to be voted on? Can't they just be happy with posting pictures?

The only reason Pet of the Month works is because obviously it doesn't get as much traffic as the fish sections and also you don't put your photos up for voting, you just make a thread and people nominate your pet and not the photo itself, also of course most people don't have hundreds of dogs to take photos of like they might with fish.

It wouldn't work for fish photos because there would just be too many people wanting to win. Also I like to know that I'm looking at pictures of someone else's fish because they wanted to share them not because they might want to be nominated for some competition. People will just end up posting pictures for the sake of it.

I agree it would be but unfortunately when some people just want to spoil the whole thing it's not worth it

Whhhhaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too much work for the mods on this one.
Im a member of a different forum (an invertebrates one if your interested) and doing a POTM ment they had to employ an extra moderator, and everyone had to take on extra work. And this is a forum with about 100 active members!
On here we have far more active members, so more mods would be needed to plough through all the photos that people had posted.
I really dont think its going to work.
