Peruvian Scalare

 Love those wild angels. Theres only a few other fish I would keep other then Discus and wild angels are on the list :good: Only thing I would warn about is you need to be very careful not to cross contaminate anything with your Discus tank and wild Angel tank. I'd put money on it being a terrible mistake.

These wont be kept with the discus dont worry. :good: They could be mixed but there is a chance the wild angels carry some pathogen that could harm the discus, is that why u advise against?

Yep. Even mixing equipment (ie using the same siphon) could spell disaster.

While I agree care should be taken... like keeping the wild angels in quarantine for 6 weeks minimum, worming and treating with potassium permanganite then possibly a Formalin and Malachite Green bath.
After this the wilds should be clean, I wouldn't take the risk with these but it can be done.

Have you had a bad experiance with mixing the two or something?

No, but I just wouldn't have my Discus anywhere close to wild Angels. Even wild fish in general, because like I said they can normally carry some nasty pathogens. But as you say, as long as you take extreme precaution with them and medicate to kill anything and everything it should be fine. I would still be a bit paranoid though but that's just me lol.

Lol. I think you should do some research before commenting so matter of factly.

Yes you are correct, Angelfish did originate from the black waters of the South American Amazon. In fact, in some circumstances yes, they may even be found in the exact same areas. There is plenty proof that Angelfish carry this "mysterious" disease. Actually it's not mysterious at all. What you are referring to is an internal parasite called Capillaria (an internal nematode.) Although these days, Capillaria is very rare in tank raised Angelfish, it can still be found in wild Angels. Not to mention they could be carrying countless other diseases. Many of these disease tank raised Discus will have never been introduced to and have no immunity to. It will hit them hard. I'm also assuming you kept tank raised Angels and not wild Angels, as the OP has.

I would be extremly careful mixing any wild fish with domestically raised fish... particually discus.

Wild fish as you must know are exposed to and have built up an immunity to many pathogens that their domestic cousins havn't had to deal with. Mix them before proper quarantine and treatment and its likely to end in tears.

This is not a mysterious wild angel fish problem its a wild fish problem. This is part of the reason why Bleher always says dont mix wild and domestic discus.

Added a couple of true P.altum. They are in with the scarare, seem to be doing well. They're really tiny and not the best pic. I'll keep this thread updated.

Nice! What are you feeding these guys?

The Scalare eat anything, they get some discus seafood mix, tetra colour and veg flakes. The altums only nibble on seafood mix and refuse flakes so they get frozen brineshrimp, bloodworm and whiteworm.

Heres a few new pics of the altum. Im pretty sure now that they are true altum.

Last week when about to do a water change I accidently spooked them out and 2 scarare and 1 altum jumped out of the tank on to the floor, I need to be very careful of that in future! happily they seem fine still eating etc. The altum are under 1 inch SL.

they are so stunning :)if its not bothering 4 u I'm curious to know what kind of accessories u r using 4 your tank and what dimensions is ure beautiful tank ?
