Personal Message Above Fishy Icons

i find it intresting to see how many posts members have made i like the post count and dont push to make mine higher

Ditto the above, if you can see if someone has a very high post count, it's easier to believe and trust them more IMHO (although this doesn't mean you necceserily should).

I don't think that post count has anything at all to do with the reliability of the information received.

One only needs to see the high post count of some who are highly active in certain (emergency) areas who openly admit to know very little about fish to see the folly in following a post count.

What a sad goal to strive for aahahaha.. everyone can have a signature.. want to say something.. put it there..

I always found it amusing when people talk about their post count like it really means something.

yup.. a high post count only means one thing.. that person likes to talk alot (and usually about very little of substance :grr: ) I agree with hiding.. or getting rid of posts counts entirely. When you hang around long enough you know who gives good solid advice and who's responses to let go in one ear and straight out the other :)

Thanks andy knew that was a dig at me and i have had my post count knocked back once by 4 and thousand.
And to be honest i couldn't careless what you think.
If you have a problem with me at least have the decency to say it by pm instead of always slating me on the board and in chat.

So easy to answer a question you know, why don't you try in the emergency section when you are out of your depth, i've spent hours trying to find info for members to help them out, as i don't want there post to be left without anybody trying to help them out, at least when I spend hours on the net trying to find some info for them it help future fish keepers, and at least I tryed more than some do, sorry sorry if i've tried to hard to please some members on here, but I thought that what life about trying to help others.

Post counts don't matter, content does. If you want to find out the real deal, do a search of that person's posts or topics. I wish they would do away with post counts, perhaps more people would then search individual's posts & topics, becoming better informed in the process.

I think I feel a poll coming!

edit: I can't spell
What would be nice (but relatively hard to implement) would be a 'was this response helpful' button and you could have a click count of those.

Whatever you do though, if it has numbers someone will try to be the best. But without numbers at all, someone like me has absolutely nothing to go on until they've browsed for a few days. I may have/take the time to do that, not everybody can. (Also I'm a fairly proficient forum user and you can quickly spot the people who post the useful responses ;) )

I agree with doing away with the post count. You get Newbie's who are new to the forum but have been keeping fish for years so post count is irrelevant. Then you get people like me, only been keeping fish for 4 months, but my count is high(ish) because I don't know a lot but have been asking loads of questions, so again, my post count is irrelevant.

If you spend enough time on the forum you soon learn who gives reliable info and who doesn't. And it's up to you if you want to believe it or not. Really, it's always best to back it up with your own research anyway.

Let's get rid of post counts as it seems to cause a few problems. It isn't a 'knowledge' graph, just a 'how busy are you on the forum' graph! :D

I like the post count (although I did at one time lose a good 2 and a half thousand when general was taken down) the thing about post count, is that those who don't know beans and have high post counts stick out fairly well, but those who have high post counts and do know there stuff tend to show as such, low post counts are wild cards.

I think we can all agree post counts are irrelevant when it comes to knowledge. Should they be done away with though? I'd say no... Shows how ''into'' the forum someone is.. which I guess might be useful to someone.. lol

Wilder has helped me out more times than one, and she's given me good advice, and her advice worked. She's actually posting something very helpful and trying to help people, fair enough if she just kept posting in Tropical Chit-Chat, but she isn't, she is helping people and I really don't see why a middle aged woman (sorry Wilder), would want to spam to get her post count up? She's really a helpful person and i've only ever seen good advice posted from her, so I just want to thank Wilder. Andy, I don't want to cause any arguements and I don't dislike you or anything, but why do you always try to pick out the "bad points" about people, that's the impression I get from some of your posts. I mean your entitled to your opinion, but i've seen you try to bring arguements up like this on more than one occasion. But please Andy, do not start to hate me or anything for this, as you do seem like a nice, comical bloke. :good:
