:) Hey, thrilled to bits cuz mum said goldfish can have tankmate!!! :D yay :D

I've been doing a bit of researching and found that the two better ones are weather loaches and peppered cories - they both seem awesome fish for my coldwater 30 gallon

any1 suggest which ones i should put in? :/ And the quantity?

Thanks  :)

Peppered corys are tropical fish and probably wouldn't be very happy in a coldwater tank. Also, because goldfish are scavengers and dig through the gravel a lot, it would probably make the cory very nervous.

I believe weather loaches are also tropical, so I'm not sure they'd be the best choice for a cold water tank either. -- However I don't know much about weather loaches, so perhaps someone more knowledgeable can help you with them.

I believe hillstream loaches are appropriate for coldwater, but I think they require a fast water current. I'm not sure what other types of fish might be appropriate -- hopefully someone else can reply and help with that, or perhaps check the coldwater section?

What type of goldfish do you have? Is it a comet or other thin-bodied/fast-swimming goldfish, or is it a rounder, slower-swimming variety (like a ryukin)? That would possibly have an impact on potential tankmates as well.

i thought they both where ok in a coldwater?

The goldfish is the more larger variety - normal light orangy colouration and not very thin - unsure of what type it is sorry

peppered corydoras are fine in temps 20-26oC (68-79oF)

personally I'd go with the weather loach

Weather loachs are sub-tropical and go great with goldfish and are cool to watch.

I didn't realize that about peppered corys. Hm, learn something new every day! I looked it up on a few sites. One says 72-79, another says 62-79, another says 68-75. All over the board, haha.

I think if it were me, I'd still stay away from the cory though. I know how my ryukin behaves (sifting through gravel all the time) and I just have visions of my little corys (which are in a different tank) looking up at this giant gold fish and thinking "AHH! What is that? Fish-zilla! RUN... er, swim for your life!!" (LOL, sorry, don't mind me, I'm a goofball.)

Maybe go with the weather loach as The-Wolf suggested :)

Hi,

If you choose weather loaches remember that they are social and like to be in groups. Do you only have one goldfish in the tank?

Emma :)

Yep, the weather loach is your better choice altho the peppered cory look lovely and would be ok in a coldwater tank. Also, they would maybe starve if they got too cold.

 Don't know if I agree about the profile pic, most of it is taken up with my tongue!

You'll not go wrong with weather loaches, easily cared for and funny. They tend to drape on things and mine used to sit in my hand. Very active dudes that won't take space from your goldfish.
