I've been eyeing up the Fluval Spec for some months now, it is fine! and I thought it was a bit expensive at first, but I've found one for £30 which isn't bad considering they retail at £50, so I've ordered one and it should come within the next week or two, I'll keep you posted. :good:

I've had mine setup for a couple of weeks now pics/journal here if you fancy a look, I think it's a great little tank, what are your plans for it?

Cheers

Jon

Awesome, I'll have a butchers.

I plan just to fill it with the Cherry Shrimp I have to encourage them to breed at a faster rate as well as filling it with mosses and other smaller plants.

Sounds good, look forward to seeing some pics.

The spec was out of stock so I went for the TMC Microhabitat instead, it's about a litre bigger but more or less the same design, it comes with complimentary TMC nutrasoil, dechlorinator, nano thermometer and a sample bottle of fertiliser so no complaints from me! I remember George Farmer scaping one about a year ago, I'm going to do something similar using 3/4 species most probably Cryptocoryne wendetii brown and green, Pogostemon helferi and Stauryogene repens, I may put a little Eleocharis acicularis if I have some in my main tank.

How much did you pay for the micro habitat SBS?? and what size is it?

Ended up paying £50 and it is 8 litres in volume, I calculated the dimensions with a volume calculator though and it comes to 10, so maybe the 8 advertised is what's available in terms of tank and the remaining 2 is concealed within the chambered filter. I think it's acrylic as well, where as the spec was glass.

looking forward to the picks! Thats not a bad price all in all. :good:

I want one of them, well 2 actually :) looking forward to pics

The company I ordered from were a pleasure to deal with, they're ARK or something on Ebay, estimated delivery upon dispatch was 4-6 working days once dispatched (This was Wednesday night) and it arrived this morning, just waiting for my mum to get back from work now as it was delivered there, pictures to follow and then I'll order some plants etc!

Not sure if I'll bother getting any wood unless I can find some that has surfaced in the high winds we've had, finding a dry dead piece in this weather is more or less impossible  so it'll probably some Blue Stone that I got from Mark when he was running the Planted Box.

Here we are:

The stone placement needs some tuning obviously but placing hardscape has never been a speciality of mine
Here it is sat on my chest of drawers:

The tank itself is fantastic, the acrylic is flawless and filter is rated at 150LPH so no turnover issues! The tank with hardscape holds about 6L. The light is kind of cool too, there are three settings: Off/day/night day is all 31 LED's lit and night is the two middle ones which provides a lovely moonlight-like shimmer. The substrate if I haven't already mentioned it is nutrasoil which also leaches ammonia, I'm cycling it the non-conventional way to begin with just to allow the ammonia to leech out and because I have no plants at my disposal yet.

Any advice about hardscape placement will be gratefully considered!

Cheers Minnnt, I just found the thermometer, it's slick and really discrete:

I need to see if TMC sell these separately, I want one for my main tank.
