Patchy Plec

Hi guys i havent been on for a while used to be on marine forum, i have a plec off my friend and he is about 9 inches long, since ive put him in my tank he has gone a bit dull and grey in places is this stress? and is there anything i can feed him that will sort it. Dan

I'm no expert but whenI first got my plec he would go kind of patchy - bits of him would change to a dull colour and I thought he was going to die! lol.

However, after looking it up on t'internet it seems that many plecs can do this as a kind of camoflage!? My plec still changes colour but he's healthy as anything - he's not got ill once and is perfectly lively and evrything.

I'd say just keep an eye on him, make sure he's eating and behaving normally and if he is then just leave him to it!

Yeah, my plec does this too. I think ti is stress patches, he always gets a bit healthier looking after a water change.

lol plecos can change shade in the space of a foot. i have seen this before, still not sure why, but the fish always carries on the same. so it seems it has no ill effect. well not yet anyway.
