Afternoon all..

Done my weekly water changes this morning whilst Mrs.Apple got on with her daily life.. and it got me wondering, does anyone have a 'couple' approach to your fishkeeping?

The only thing Mrs.Apple has ever got involved in is taking my water readings during my qualifying week when i was on the night-shift (couldn't wait to see my progress  ) but other than that, nothing really... but what i will say is this, she takes great admiration for the tank and will sit and watch it regulary, which in itself a reward to any fish-keeper.

So, all up to you? Or does the other half like to get involved? What about parents for those still living at home?

Regards,
Terry.

i'm still at home, my parents take an interest but the general care is down to me, my partner has a tank at his (thanks to me ;)) so once we get a place no doubt it will all be shared, his 1 tank and my 8

my boyfriend and family thought the tank was nice 'when it wasnt just an empty tank' - apparently 2 fry and a load of shrimp dont count..

Still can't get my wife to sling 5 gallon buckets.

Beyond that she'll net fish, protest a little about being conned into being club secretary, go on road trips to auctions, pretty long list of what she helps with. More brains than brawn, I get stuck with the grunt work.

I'm single, but my kids get quite involved. My two youngest are keenest. My daughter is six and has just helped her dad rescue a tank from one of her school friends to keep at his house for when she's there. She likes zebra loach, tiger barbs and our angel fish best. She even knows the Latin names of some of our fish! (she's bright as a button, that one :D)

My middle son (15) has two tanks in in his room; a 4x18x18 with a rescued oscar (I know, I know; he's going into a 5x2x2 shortly though) and some catfish in it, and an Edge with a few Endler's, two ghost shrimp and an assassin snail.

My eldest (23) likes looking at them and knows the names of a few, but isn't interested really beyond that. His GF loves cories; they make her lol ;)

My wife is very understanding of my hobby. She will tell me when something looks rubbish. She will come with me to get plants and fish from all over the place. She still won't do a water change though as she's scared of fish!

My wife will do nothing when it comes down to my tanks, but that is fine with me because that means I can do what I want with my tanks. Granted, yes, I will ask her first before making a big purchase just so she knows what is coming, but if it's small things like plants or fish, she doesn't have an issue (as long as I don't go overboard with it).

In her words, "You can't cuddle with a fish so I don't like them". She's more of a cat/dog person

Mine helps with everything but water changes since the buckets are to heavy for her. She enjoys the hobby quite a bit so one of the 55 gallons is hers now.

My boyfriend would feed them until I realized he was feeding them too much because he can't stand their cute begging.

Now is duty is to empty a bucket of the 10g fry tank every night and when I do weekly w/c, I'll get him to set up and take down the python. I also make him put money into the tanks as he went and put 6 angels into my 75g tropical.

My hubby loves peering in to see what's going on in the fish world. He loves tagging along to the lfs etc but other than that it's all up to me. Water changes, feeding etc.

im still at home as well. my family take an interest but they never help out.besides drive me places to get stuff / let my borrow there pay pal account for getting plants online

 Im very territorial... i'd batter the living daylights if someone messed with my tank :p

My ex got really annoyed, he bought loads of ridiculous fish so i had to make sure we kept getting tanks for them and we did water changes together but tbh he was a right pain and got in the way! I started doing the changes on my day off for some peace and quiet and after that, he refused to help as i had 'taken over his tanks'.

I do everything with my tank, the wife isnt interested and only has a dig when i drop water on the floor screaming "fish poo water, i've just mopped the floor!!"". She likes to watch them from time to time though.

My boyfriend got me into topicals by turning up with a 60L bowfront he found in the street :D

He loves fish but he loves really inappropriate fish (arowanas, marines, anything big that stares you out) and I've mostly taken over the tanks now, which is good because he kept putting ridiculous things into them like a peacock eel once  He has his own tank for a juvenile blue lobster which I made him put in the front room away from me because I think he's creepy (ditto the giant bamboo shrimps that turned up in the community tank one day!).

I do most of it (water testing, medicines, planting, etc) because he just 'lets them get on with it', but he gets a workout lifting huge buckets into the tank for me because I'm too weak :D

I would buy you small buckets and tell you to get on with it. :>
