Parrot Fish Has Issues...

I'm a little hurt that after asking for help to ensure that my fish doesn't come to any harm my thread has simply been hijacked by an argument about whether or not my fish is in the wrong size tank or not. This is not what I asked and I now simply feel that I'm doing something wrong by keeping him in the first place! Please, if you can't help me don't try...

sorry, raven... anyhow, as i said earlier, i would just keep an eye on him. he's an adorable little critter and looks like quite a playful one as well... perhaps he's only playing around and goofing off?

Is it possible that he can see his reflection in the protective cover? I know it sounds silly but if he can see his reflection he may be trying to get to "that other fish" and the spasms may be shock from hitting the plastic. I don't know if this helps but I hope it does. :fun:

And Vancover.... Lady Raven is right. You gave no help; you found something to fuss about and hijacked the thread to do so. The Lady is trying to help her fish the best she can and all you can do is make her feel like her best just isn't enough. :< I thought this was where you got help. I'm glad you're done with this topic. Maybe we can get something accomplished now!

Being able to see his reflection was something I considered as, at the right angle I can see his reflection so he probably can too! I'm still not quite sure about the twitch, he's doing it quite a lot, but we've now got two good videos of him so when it cools down a bit here I'll take it into the fish shop to see what they think my be wrong. Thanks for all the help!

I hope he recovers soon. If there is anything I can do just let me know. :D

wow

Keeping a parrot cichlid in a 30g tank is not good. You can call me this and call me that, but nothing changes the fact that parrot cichlids should not be kept in 30g tanks.

I'm just curious what you're trying to accomplish? besides failing miserably at trying to make me look bad

however, there's not a lot she can do about it at the moment. some people don't have enough money to run out and buy a 75G tank spur of the moment. so, although she could start thinking about getting a larger tank for christmas or something, your lecturing her about it isn't going to do her or the fish any good.

lady raven, hopefully it is his reflection. fish can be rather funny about that. my betta sits and flares for hours at his own reflection. they're crazy little critters sometimes. i also see my other fish trying to get to their reflections quite regularly. they think it's another fish, i guess. anyhow, i hope he feels better!!! perhaps your LFS can shed more light on the situation than we can. :)

''your lecturing her about it isn't going to do her or the fish any good. ''

I wasn't lecturing her.. I'm simply trying not to let people spread bad information.

Vancover........ just cut it out. "What are we trying to accomplish?" We are trying to accomplish helping a member find out what is wrong with her fish. Perhaps even save it's life. What are you trying to accomplish? You made your point. We ALL now know a Parrot shouldn't be in a 30g. You happy? Seems to me you're just a bully.

Lady Raven...... Any updates? Better worse the same?? I hope he's doing OK.

I went to visit my LFS, with the video that was taken of Jake and they said that he doesn't look to be in distress. They said it might be that the hot weather is affecting him so they advised that we turn the lights off in the tank, which seems to have helped! The tank has gone down in temperature and he's having less of his 'fits'. The other thought they had was that he may have hurt himself in some way and caused himself to have twitches every now and then. Apparently it's quite common for them to go through a kind of suicidal phase. They also told me there was nothing wrong with the size of tank he was in and that it wouldn't be causing him problems.

And it's not a case of having the finances to buy a bigger tank, it's a case of not having the room to put a tank of that size in my house at the moment. I am in agreement that 30g is not ideal and I resent the implication that I may be saying it is.

Lady Raven I'm so glad that he's showing signs of improvement!!!!!! That makes my day! Keep us posted on how he's doing. Jake has somehow found his way into my heart. I hope he continues to improve. Please keep us posted. :D :D

im not trying to continue where vancouver finished but an LFS will say anything to ya.

most of them only care about money so of course they will say your tank size is fine.
