Hi there,

I popped in here a few months ago to ask about companions for my cories when re-arranging my tanks.

One of you suggested keeping my pandas and pygmies together and keeping them in a small tank, rather than in my new big tank. Sorry can't remember who it was and too lazy to look it up. :p

I just wanted to pop back and say thanks. The pandas are the same as ever ... happy and boisterous. But the pygmies ... they just love being in with their new companions. I was a bit worried about them being too nervous to get on with the pandas but they're much more active now and it's lovely to see a pygmy sitting on top of a panda!

I'm sure most of you would already have known that they would get on - but it just goes to show that when you're a generalist with a wide range of fish, it's worth asking an expert.

One thing I always found fascinating about corydoras catfish, is how well many of the different subspecies all get along so well with eachother. If only people could do that better ;)

But anyway, glad to hear everything is going well with your fish :)

God Bless,
Joshua

Thanks both ... and too right Joshua. I sometimes also wish that other fish would get on so well ... the ones that insist on having territories!

HI Majjie :)

I'm glad it all worked out well with your pandas and pygmaeus together. They do make a very nice combination.

Thanks Inchworm

And Fish-aholic ..... the tank is a 20g, fairly well planted with a couple of big rocks and a couple of pieces of bogwood. There are six pandas and nine pygmies in there with a few elderly boy guppies and a few tiger shrimp. The guppy boys mainly stay up near the surface, whilst - when there's no prospect of food - there are pygmies perching all over the place. Then, just after they've been fed, there are pandas climbing all over the place, searching out stray bits of food. I know that guppies, in general, like the temperature a bit higher than the cories do - but they all seem happy with the compromise. I love it! :D

Aww, that's so great! I have pandas and pygmies too in the same tank. They look so cute together, especially since the pandas are so much bigger than the pygmies. It's cute to watch them 'dance' together! :)

Have you posted any pictures anywhere? If you haven't, could you :)? I'd love to see it.

God Bless,
Joshua

Hi CrashingWaves :)

I'm sure the planted tanks are prettier, and I'm hoping to see them too, but here's my panda and pygmy picture:

Beautiful fish :). I really would like to get some panda corydoras again. I haven't kept them in a number of years, because in my current location I haven't been able to find them.

What is it with you and pictures Joshua? Mind you ... I like looking at pics too :p
I hold you entirely responsible for the hours I've (unsuccessfully) spent trying to get a picture of a pygmy sitting on a panda. But, since I've spent all that time, I shall now bore you with the results (and apologies for the fact that the focus isn't too good on some of them - they're fast moving little b-----s)

Here's the whole tank:

Pandas together isn't too difficult:

Pandas climbing up bogwood:

One panda ... in focus .... but with what looks like a nasty blob (actually on the glass!):

Here are some pygmies with part of a panda:

and again (with parts of two pandas ... and a guppy) ...

Here's a close up of a (slightly blurry) pygmy:

and here's where the pygmy's retreat to; when you try to take too many photos (it's the coconut shell in the far right of the main tank picture). But I can see in ... with the flash on the camera ..... ha! ha! :hey:

I don't know. I suppose even though I have my own fish, for some reason I still enjoy seeing pictures of other peoples fish, even if they're the same species I have. I also like seeing other peoples tanks to see the setup they have with plantings, wood, and rocks and try and get some ideas for my own fish keeping :). Nice looking fish you have though too, props :)

God Bless,
Joshua
