Paludarium Experiment

That is really good mate, weldone, take me forever to get round and do something like that, whats the stocking plan?

when i look at the shot from above i exspect aload of tribal warriors to come dashing out the coconut

sorry if you have mentioned this before but what are you going to stock in it.

Got the water feature added in and it works great! Here are some pics. I'm not totally sure on the stocking yet. Any suggestions?

Looking good, would love to try something like this out.

How do you go about heating it though?

Excellent Progress, Like the Coconut Cave and Use of Rocks

i reckon either a pair of crabs or some kind of frog.. its quite hard when your working on a small scale..

im doing a paludarium in a few weeks probably with a spare 30 gallon, and i hope it ends up looking good like yours. nice job!

First thank you to all of you for the kind thoughts....NOW onto your help lol, all my plants are dying like crazy. I figured it might be from transplanting stress, but they are getting worse and worse. I felts the soil and its moist by not wet. The leaves feel really dry and brittle. I have a 13 watt spiral energy saving bulb that is supposed to be for plant life. Do you guys think that the plants are getting too much light? I leave the tank lit for roughly 9 hours a day to represent natural day time. Is this too much? Im stumped and I dont want this project to go down hill....HELP! lol

and it might be to humid, is it covered? if you picked the plants outside, they need the environment to be like they have in the wild, and unless you live in the rainforest it probably wont work. but if they are supossed to be in humid air, or if you dont have humid air, i dont know what the problem would be.

Yes the tank does have a lid and I need it covered in case i decide to stock it with a frog. I purchased the plants from a store. I figured the environment in the tank would mask that of a green house with the humidity but I guess i was wrong..OOOOPS! lol Any suggestions on tropical plants that I could add that could stand the humidity?

Have a look on Ebay and Look for the Marginal Pond Plants, they would be best for you.

Aldo Plants I have Used in the Past:
Creeping Jenny, Does VV Well In/Out of the water and does not mind Moist Soil.
I would also Have a Search for Riparium Tanks on other forums for more planting ideas.

Looking really good! I never thought about hiding the filter with rocks.... Mine hasn't been on in months though so IDK why its still in there.

As far as the plants, I think you have live peat moss which should be fine since it is a bog plant. I am unfamiliar with the other too. Light should not be a issue, because my 5 gal runs twice as much without problems. If the leaves are drying out I would suspect lack of humidity... if it was me I would just put plastic wrap under the hood so it holds in moisture. Poke some holes in it though. It helps stop the light from burning off the humidity. Its often a issue because there is no condensation barrier in small tanks. Usually when there is too much humidity the leaves go blackish.

I've found that forget-me-nots are a really easy plant to grow in a tank.
