Right,, a bit lost here............

Tank cycled and working well, fish introduced and all good

Only plastic and silk plant in at present, taken the bogwood out.

Noticed that the air tube from the built in Fluval Filter had popped off, and so the oxygen had stopped going into the tank. By the time i got home, the neons were at the top gasping for air, replaced the air feed and an hour later they were dancing away quite happy again.

Now i know that some fold dont use an airstone or any other manners of introducing air to the water and they have no issues, but why does my tank need it ? (Fluval Lido 120)

recently dosed with melafix,,, does this rake out the oxygen ?

all replies and advice appreciated

cheers
Ray

Yes, Melafix does lower the amount of oxygen in the water. Airstones....especially when medicating are important IMO! I have them in all my tanks all the time....mostly because I think it looks better.

cheers guys,, increased oxy pipe to max and now having it break surface as apposed to being underwater.

thanks
Ray

What was you using Melafix for by the way may I ask? And what size tank is it your dosing?

O2, from the pipe or air stones, does little to up the overall levels in your tank.

surface disruption is where all the O2 comes from.
dont mess with airs tones and the pipe on the filter. point the outlet at the surface, if you can place it just under the surface. and all will be fixed.

incidentally, there is no need for air stones (its not just a few who get away with it. they are not needed).

Phil, it's a 120ltr Juwel lido,, melafix was being used for what looked like fin rot.. all fixed now,, fish look good now
