Oversized Sig's Announcement

I find big sigs just take up room on page it means scrolling to much to read a long post.

Personally some sigs are very usefull others showing there 7ft tank and 1:1 is a bit overkill. As to TXT SPK..... well sometimes the words are no shorter.... the small amount is fine but a whole post...... and CAPITALS ON AN ENTIRE POST..... well what more can be said.

PS. I hope noone gets to offended by any post in this thread and can take some of the light banter...

I'd just like to add that after checking my sig and finding out that i was breaking the rules slightly (i think) , I have re-sized my graphic and i'm now fully compliant!! :-

That's all it takes, folks...............................

Yes it's damn annoying....nearly as annoying as people who write in text speak frankly.

LOL how old R U M8 if the way PPL write bothers U ..... i think U have some issues :p most importantly is that weather writing in text or not if you can understand it what is the problem lol :) get a life LOL

I think your reply sums up perfectly the kind of response to be expected from someone who writes in text speak frankly. The problem, as you put it, is that many people can't be bothered to read posts written in text speak, I know I don't bother other than to occasionally point out why I haven't bothered to answer the post.
Incidentally, your mild insults to me would have carried more gravitas if you'd included some punctuation...having to mentally add it myself means I'm no longer thinking about what you're trying to say.

Still, I wonder how old you are to think that you should have to make no effort to explain yourself clearly when expecting a response on what is an international forum. By international I mean there are people here who don't necessarily have English as their first language, but apparently it's still ok for you to make it as difficult as you can for those people to understand you, even though they may have valuable experience to offer - while at the same time finding it funny, as well as readers problem if they can't be bothered to decipher it.
No-one expects perfect English with every post, but I think the least a reader can expect it to see some effort at achieving it.

And personally I have no problem with text speak. It has it's place like anything else..which was when phone text messages were limited to 160 characters as it was a useful trick to stay within the character limit. However, to sit in front of a full 26 character keyboard and to only have the intelligence to use 15 of them, smacks of stupidity and selfishness imo. With a full qwerty keyboard and easy access to a spell checker, the only people with a vaild excuse here are those who don't have English as their first language (or those with 11 keys missing).

and CAPITALS ON AN ENTIRE POST..... well what more can be said.

that too :good:

WHAI DNT U LYKE ME WE CUD B FRNDS 4 LYF, PLZ DNT MOCK MY INTOLGENCE I IZ VERY SMARTZ

This has gone way off topic. Back to the original topic. The announcement has been made to let people correct their own rather than a mod going in and deleting it and then the member having to go back to find the links or what ever else they had there. A lot of people don't realize their sigs are not legal as they have never read the pinned thread which is in seeral forums. There are 2 posters on this thread so far whose sigs are out of compliance. Are they terribly out of compliance? No. But we have to be fair and make everyone comply. We can't crack down on one and then leave someone else because it's only one line too much for example.

Could you please tell us who they are? If i am out of compliance, let me know =]

You're good. Right click on your sig, then click on properties, this will give you height, width, and file size.

I was incorrect that there were 2 before. One of them was ok. I thought the image was too tall but it is within the limits. There was 1 though and since I posted that, there has been another poster who is non-conforming. For those that still haven't read them, the rules are:

5 lines of standard sized text. Large text should be treated as a picture and limited to 2 lines

OR

one picture/gif (maximum size of 100k or 400px wide x 300px tall) and 2 lines of text

As Tolak mentioned, right click your image and click properties. If your image is over 102,400 bytes or more than 400 x 300, then your image needs to be resized.

Rdd you iz one SEXZY beast, but may I ask what makes the whole signature topic a "LEGAL" matter?

yaaayyyy lets make a big deal about everythinggg!!! :fun:

not even gunna bother with my oppinion on the sig deal.. but of course its a "LEGAL" matter Ace!! you really should have known this.. common now.. :p

AS FOR TXT SPEECH... well things like lol, lmao, IMO (which you used in ur rant against text speak Darkstar), are also from text speaking.. i typed a rant replying about this, but once again decided against it and am just not going to bother.. as it is off topic, and wont help any.

and i also agree on the whole ALL CAPS THING, THIS DOESNT MAKE ME WANT TO READ YOUR MESSAGE, IT CAUSES PAIN AND HEADACHES

they have never read the pinned thread
What?!??!? Surely not.

One of the troubles with "text speak", "leet speak" or any other childish manifestation is that it becomes very difficult for people who do not have English as their first language to read. As has been pointed out earlier, messages typed in that way are often simply ignored.

it's a private forum, in effect a members club of sorts, therefore it sets it's own rules and is permitted to do so and enforce them, anything which contravenes these rules is 'illegal' on the forum.

the word 'legal' does not just apply to the law set down by the country.

sure andywg or someone like that with much more experience than me will pop along to phrase that better, but he is correct in his use of the word legal in this context.

I may be wrong but as far as I can see the term only seems to refer to the legal system (be it civil, criminal or international). Private clubs and the like will usually have some form of incorporation and as such will have memoranda and/or constitutions which lay down the rules of the club or society.

I suppose we could talk of whether the sigs are ultra vires or intra vires but that seems a bit formal. Compliant with the rules is probably a better phrase.

Interestingly, there is a mod that does not conform to the rules on their sig, I wonder who will be bold enough to delete that? ;)

And yes I do understand mine is perhaps a bit long, but it just doesn't look right shrunk down to 400pixels wide (who has a monitor with that low a resolution on it?).

On a more serious note, is there perhaps scope to ammend the sig rules, after all many people had dial up when the rules were laid down. Should those that embrace technology be held back by the luddites? ;) (and no I am not proposing using the army to defeat groups of people who still use 56k modems)

ha ha who?!

I believe there's also a rule about not having web links to other sites and such advertisments in your sig and profile, there's one mod that contravenes that rule as well. :D

I myself had broken the sig rules lol
I can see why it is annoying having such large sigs and a lot of sites have a lot stricter sig rules than TFF

I like reading what people have in their tanks :)

Cheers Sarah xxxx

p.s. hope i'm not still breaking the rules lol
