Overnight deaths....

I just lost Mean Mr. Mustard and Evil Ryu (avatar) this past week. No signs of illness, just floating about their business, flaring when I put the containers close to one another just to keep a bit of spark going. All I know is that they just died. And this white fungus-web is around them. It wasn't in their water before, nor was it on their skin. What could it be?

The white fungus stuff is probably from the fact they are dead fish. I've seen that before, and it doesn't take long for that "stuff" to crop up and appear, from what I've seen.

First things first.. what age were the fish? Did you check their water stats? IE, Nitrites, etc? It is possible they had something seriously wrong with the water that caused them to die.

Or, they could have just been old, and when the other died, the other one got depressed and followed in its path. It is hard to say without seeing the water levels and the situation.

Thanx. I guess Mean Mr. Mustard was depressed. And Evil Ryu was already older than a year and a half when I got him.

Yeah my first betta died about two months after his first spawn which was unsuccessful... Then all this fungusy stuff came out and I screamed for my dad to take him out cuz I was so damn scared

sometimes we miss the signs of infection unless we look closely at our fish (and know what to look for). in all probability they were suffering from an infection for awhile, it just wasn't noticable because everything else looked fine. your fish were probably suffering from Saprolignia or body fungus. sucks itty, they were beautiful fighters and are now in the great arena in the sky, flaring down on you and taking on all unearthly foes with wild abandon.
