I bought a new tank yesterday (about to write another post documenting my day of hard work) which came with an Eheim 2213 ext filter. I moved everything from my old tank including my mature Eheim 2234 filter.

At first I thought I'd sell the 2213, but now I'm thinking I should use it. The tank's 200ltr and the max size for the 2234 is that, so I figure it'd be a good idea to get both on the go.

Now I keep swaying back and forth.. should I sell it, should I use it??? I haven't opened it yet but am getting really tempted to see what it looks like.

If I were to keep it, are these filters hard to prime?

I would advise you to keep the filter. Use one at each end of your tank.Eheim classics are great filters and I wouldn't say they are difficult to prime. I always think its better to over filtrate tanks.HTH.

well I decided to go for it and instantly regretted it. It's really loud! Distractingly so! I decided it'd be better to pull it out before it grows any bacteria and save up my pennies for a larger eheim to replace the 2234 rather than run two at the same time.

I'm really disappointed. But, I guess I have a load of spare parts for my original external now. :(

I have got two running, one at each end. Got my hydor prime 30 inlet at one end and my fluval internal at the other end. My tank has never been cleaner and my water has never been clearer.
I will have to post some pics up soon. :good:

Eheim Classic's are just about silent. If yours is making a noise, you have it setup wrong. I have 2 within a couple of meters of where I am sitting, one a 2213, need to touch them to see if they are still going.

I don't know what I could've done wrong.. wash & insert media, connect all hoses, prime, plug in.

I did use an outlet pipe which is kind of "squashed" at the tip (cant remember the proper name for it) do you think if I used the spray bar which came with it, it'd be quieter?

Not if the noise was coming from the pump. What sort of noise is it making?

I have a 2213 and 2215 on a 6x2x2 2 meters from my deak. With the returns baffled to produce very little surface movement, (CO2 issues), there is no indication that they are there at all.

Spray bars are noisy, but that is the same with any filter.

The noise was coming from the pump. It was like a loud whirring noise. At first I thought it wasn't sitting flat against the bottom of my cabinet and was vibrating, but after moving it around a little, it didn't get any quieter.

I don't know what to do. I might try plugging it all up again, but it's a lot of messing about if it's going to be the same.

Did you make sure the canister was completely full of water before you started it. You also need to tip them to the side a bit to remove any air bubbles out of the top I did this the other day although the only problem was a strange squeaking noise from air bubbles in the spray bar, took me ages to figure out where the noise was coming from.

I have to say I just bought a ehiem 2213 and couldn't be happier with it I cleaned it out the other day and the floor was almost completely dry. Definitely beats the second hand fluval 304 I have running on the other tank it is noisy and a nuisance to get started. Saying that I can't complain about it too much it has yet to leak on me.

Well, I've tried again. Completely emptied everything, re-read instructions, primed and made sure it was completely full, started it up again and tipped it from side to side until no more air is coming out and I can still hear it quite loud from where Im sitting a meter or two away.

I'm really disappointed. I think I'm gonna ring the shop I bought it from tomorrow and see what they say. I'll run it for another few hours and see if it stops, but it's really getting on my nerves already, so I don't know how long I'll last.

My eheim ecco makes really crazy loud noises unless you prime it properly, a kind of grinding noise like the impellor is going rouind in air. You really have to make sure when you prime it that there is no air left in the system otherwise its just gonna keep sounding like that. I'd stick with it if I were you as the eheim filters are brilliant. If it is making that noise don't run it for longer than 10 minutes or you run the risk of damaging the impellor in my experience.

I primed it by sucking on the outflow until it went through the entire system (which it suggested in the manual).. There shouldn't have been any air left in it.. especially after tipping it from side-to-side and getting rid of all the air.

I've got to say I really don't know much about the eheim classic filter. Perhaps try sucking on the inlet pipe as well? On the ecco to prime itself it sucks on both pipes. Worth a try i suppose

I'm thinking about getting a second Eheim Ecco 2234 to run alongside my current one (gonna use the 2213 on my old tank). Each pump would have an output of 500ltr/hour, so if I ran both at the same time, would 1000ltr/hour be too much for a 200ltr tank? Perhaps if I fitted them with lilly pipes?

iv got a 2026 pro 2 with the self primer and still get air in the system m8, i just leave mines to run and by the morning its almost silent , mind you it doesn't sound as bad as you have described when first starting.
