My roommate and I recently (1 year ago) set up our tank. We had a few Mollies at first and have been quiet successful at breeding them...too successful. We have decided to get rid of all the males to prevent overcrowding in our tank. We looked here at the best (most humane) ways to kill them, but I'm still uneasy. I'd hate to just kill them. So I was thinking, can we eat the extra males? Anyone know if people can safely eat Molly Fish?

LOL. this is a joke right? Eating Mollies!! The most humane way is to put them in a plastic bag in a little water and then put the bag in the freezer. The cold will shut down their bodies and thats that!

No, I really am serious. My roommate thinks it's weird too. I don't understand why. I think it's wasteful and cruel to just kill them and get nothing from them at all. People eat whole little fish all the time, but I don't know if Mollies are safe.

You want to eat them?
Why would you want to eat them?
You can take them back to a fish store, and they will get them off your hands without killing them, and for free.

The most professional way to kill your fish would be to cut of the head.
You could put them in oil, which suffocates them.
Or freeze them, but it isn't painless ether.
I still don't get why you want to kill them.

Sell them! Take them back to the store!

I'd say give them away to someone. Make an announcement in the newspaper and you can either sell or give them for free. The more you kill, the shorter your life is.

I would assume they don't taste that great. Whitebait and such (small fish you eat whole) have not been brought up in a tank. I don't think they'd be 'clean' enough.

Edit: I'm all for recycling but seriously just take them to your LFS lol

take them to a fish store, some might even give you store credit for them... killing them when you can take them back is just stupid, the only reason I could see going that route was if the fish was about to die from being sick, even then its still hard to do... As far as eating them, I wouldn't. probably not the best tasting fish.

And probably could carry diseases / toxic substances. LOL @ going to doctor with an indigestion.
Doctor: "What did you eat before?"
Patient: "Well, I ate a couple of mollies."

Yes, they could have parasites too.
Just take them back to the store or give them away, but don't eat them please. -_-
You'd risk your own health.

Put a nob of butter into a pan, fillet 100 Mollies (time consuming), marinate in lemon, salt and pepper and then fry until flakey, then put them in a cob and enjoy!

Swordtails taste a little better and you tend to get more flesh off them, so consider breeding them in the future :good:

Maybe if you're lucky, the fish will be infecter with Mycobacteria tuberculosis, you get infected and the planet is rid of yet another internet troll:

Goes down well with a couple of bettas.

Ahhhhh......Or just swallow em whole and hopefully they'll get stuck!
