Out Of All Of Them This Is My Fave

How is it not suitable for aquariums?
Because it is not truly aquatic and as far as I know, not likely to be found in marshy, boggy areas. 5 days after filling the tank with water, it leached what I can only assume as sap into the tank and turned it slightly cloudy. It also floated even though we had siliconed some of it down.
I was told that if I perservered, it may be ok in time. Unfortunately, I haven't got the time and I'm not risking it as I will be keeping Plecs in the tank.

thats a bummer its one sexy piece of wood. now dont quote me on this as i may well be wrong , but im sure i remember reading in a fish book sometime ago that you can seal trhe wood with some kind of aquarium safe resin ??

Thanks Mark but took it all out now, just didn't want to take the risk.
Hopefully be able to find some tomorrow as I'm popping to one of our suppliers. I know they have some huge pieces of Sumatra wood, so fingers crossed.
As for Discus, seems the other half quite likes the idea. He's popping into one of the stores on his travels tomorrow to have a look. :hyper:

i know you work in a lfs , so no offence when i say this but , if you do get discus id reccomend getting them from a specialist breeder/importer. you will have a far wider choice andd you will get healthier better quality fish . where are you based?

No offence taken :)
I'm based in Northampton but we do have a specialist supplier for Discus. We don't stock them in our store as they never sold well but do know of other stores that stock them.
I've seen some beautiful ones at Wharf aquatics, might have to pay a visit in the next few weeks.

not aloud to post links to other forums if i rememver rightly so i will pm you something you may find very usefull , when deciding who to buy from.

hmmmm for some reason its throwing up n error when i try to pm you ?? so i will just have to risk incurring the wrath of the mods lol

go to bidka ( british and international discus keepers association) they have a forum there its free and easy to join. a very good place to buy discus from is a sponsor of a discus specialist forum.

1st and foremost they are discus enthusiasts and are therefore passionate about what they do . 2ndly being a sponsor they have a certain level of reputation to uphold.

mine came from david lai who is a sponsor there.

Thanks for that Mark and I hope you don't feel the wrath of the mods.
That'll give me something to read over the next couple of days while I am off. Thanks for your help (and encouragement!), really do appreciate it.
