Otto Sex!

  congrats :kewlpics: I know breeding pets is a sign of good fish keeping, but I almost hope mine don't breed. I'm not going to try and induce, but I won't try to stop them. Just the idea of getting fry equipment, seems troublesome. Even worse I'd no idea what to do w/ them, if the LFS wouldn't take them.

I am chuffed to bits about these guys. A few weeks ago I had no fry and now I have rainbow fish and otos. I'm happy when my fish are happy.

Going to do a fair bit of remodelling to the tank soon (new plants) so I hope I don't upset them.

Down to two oto fry now. One stopped feeding and was very small. It died yesterday. the reamining two are growing quickly. they are approaching 1cm TL and are now quite coloured up. They are a base brown colour with black patches along their length. More pictures when I can get a decent one!

congrats

ny new photos of the fry?

Congratulations. I've always dreamed of spawning otos. That T-position is so cool, just like cories do. Lets hope they will spawn again and you will get lots of baby otos. :)

The oto fry are now about 13mm long. Any idea when they will be large enough to go into the main tank? The biggest risks are the rainbow fish and the black neons. They are right terrors! When will they recognise a fry as another fish and not a snack?
I'm worried about the new otos not getting enough food as they grow.
I'm going to do a big rescape to the tank this weekend as I have just taken delivery of a bunch of new plants. Do you think this would be a good opportunity to add the little guys as the other fish will be scared stiff by the time I finish messing round with the tank?
