Hi all, Im after some advice regarding some small fish suited to algae grazing in tropical tanks. I currently have some dwarf suckermouth cats in each tank (Otocinclus sp prob affinis) which are ok and a gold spot dwarf plec (Paraotocinclus spilosoma) which is also a good grazer.

I would like to add a couple more species suited to eating algae in the same way but am not sure what to add. I did try a pair of Farlowella acus in my largest tank but sadly they did not seem to be suited to a community tank and neither lasted very long. The twig/whiptail cats do interest me a lot so I dont know if there is a more suitable species?

I am also interested in other Otocinclus species such as zebra oto's but these seem to be very hard to come by and not offered on my local suppliers lists.

Can anybody offer any suggestions of other suitable fish?

Thanks

Rich

Bristlenose plecs will graze on algae, but should be fed a variety too.

I did fancy the idea of bristlenose plecs but was advised they can be quite destuctive to plants as they have a habit of rooting about and disturbing them. Is this likely to happen if I had them?

"Yes" my one wrecked my tank dug huge pits in the sand/gravel then spread the substrate around the tank.

oh right, would like to avoid that situation as the planting is important. If there are some other fish similar in behaviour to oto's that would be perfect. I was very happy with the farlowella's and they looked unusual so its a real shame they didnt work in acommunity tank.
